Do all body washes smell the same?

I was in the "body wash" aisle today, and took a sniff of a few different brands. Old Spice, Dove, Axe, etc.

They all smelled the same.

I mean, there were minor differences, but they all smelled alike. In a blind smell test, I doubt I could identify which was which.

Is there anything that smells, I dunno, not like every other body wash?

There are slight variations, but to my nose, not much. Premium body washes, such as Molton Brown, have many different scents and they all have their very own olfactory profile.

I have to agree with you, most body wash seems to have the same generic, synthetic ocean/sporty/fresh supposed manly scent.

That being said, I just buy the cheapest stuff I can find, as I have found no difference in real performance either. :thumbup1:

Maybe it's because I'm a lady but I find some body washes smell vastly different. Some do smell stronger than others though. You can get very citrusy lemon ones and lime ones
Some very strong lavender ones or tea tree ones too.

I guess the more generic ones might smell similar but I tend to go for citrus ones or a more "relaxing" smell.

I think alot of the stuff in the men's section of the body wash department are subtle variations of the same thing. I currently use Nivea Energy, which doesn't seem to strive for that "manly" scent you find in Axe or some of the Old Spice scents. Personally I think Axe is terrible. Way too strong on the scent.

If you can find a body wash that smells like this, you won't soon forget it. So you might as well just buy the soap :biggrin1:.

How is the Old Spice "Classic" body wash scent? Does it actually smell like, well, classic OS?

That is what I am presently using. Although I think it may have been discontinued, as I haven't seen it on the shelves recently.

The smell is reminiscent of the classic Old Spice smell, but I don't think it is quite spot on. But certainly a cut above the Axe type body washes. It's certainly way more pleasant than the generic manly smell of most men's body washes.

They probably aren't considered "premium" but Bath and Body works sells C.O. Bigelow body washes that, in my opinion, smell substantially better than the general big box store stuff. But that's just me.

Women's washes come in a lot more scents (mostly floral). Men's all kind of fall in the 'sport/ocean/brisk/cool' spectrum, just like our deodorants.

I consider Bigelow's items to be premium quality.

Dead on. I like it. I don't know how much it truly projects the scent, but it's pleasant to use. Having said that, if you're really "into" the original Shulton Old Spice formula, don't try it on my word. But to me, nothing is going to be closer to Old Spice as a body wash or soap.

I like the Old Spice Fresh 3X too. Very invigorating and clean.

I'm sure sniffing the containers, they'll all smell alike. In use, they're all a bit different. It's debatable how much "scent" they all really impart. I've used a few of them and like the Old Spice line the best. AXE and Dove Men make me itch.

Molton Brown is first rate with a price to match. It's good stuff, but I worry about it conflicting with my frags.

+1 I tend to like the differences with these types of body washes even into just Bath and Body Works generic body wash. Not all of the scents are floral, but most of them are. However these products ranks pretty high for me.

I recommend the Olay (or Wal-Mart/military knock-offs) body wash with Shea Butter. The latter are dirt cheap for alot of product, moisturizes your skin (unlikethe "manly" scented bodywashes; at least the few I've tried), and has negligible scent. Great stuff. The only scent I'm interested in after cleaning up is from my aftershave (and I prefer that to dissipate w/in the hour).

Anyone else notice mens body-wash is always colored BLUE? And yes i agree it all smells the same.

my body shop shower gels/creams all smell very different.

the only men's product from the body shop I use is the maca root shaving cream. the sales assistants always mistakenly think I'm shopping for myself and my wife when I buy stuff there.
