DMT; holes or continuous surface?

DMT Users, which one do you prefer, the continuous surface, i.e this one:
proxy.php

or this one:

Are there any advantages with one or the other?
For honing & for lapping?

I'm opting for 600 grit.

I've heard that the continuous grit can cause some intense suction on some stones, and have wondered if the interrupted surface alleviated that. Hope to find out!

I have no experience with anything other than the solid DMTs. But, they work fine. If you are getting just one DMT, I would recommend the DMT 325. When you get it, it will seem so gritty that you will wish you hadn't purchased it. But, with a little use, it tames down, and you will be so happy you will send me money! :)

I'm currently looking at the Duosharp course/extra-fine (325/1200) to work as my lapper and bevel setter. It has the interrupted surface as well, so I'm interested in hearing feedback about this.

I prefer the Dia-sharp (full nickel/diamond matrix on metal plate) over the Duo-sharp (swiss cheese nickel/diamond matrix on plastic base) because I hate the cheap/lightweight feeling of the Duo-sharp plastic base.

I did not notice any difference when honing or lapping.

I would be curious to hear more about this intense suction. I had a razor that was magnetized and next to impossible to hone on the DMT until I de-magnetized it. I wondering if an intense suction is really just a magnetized razor.

I meant on other hones when lapping or building slurry.

:lol::lol: Indeed, I can attest to the intense suction whilst lapping. I never lapped anything with the interrupted surface as mine were smaller (6x2) than the hones I was lapping (8x3)

jsut got a 600/1200 monster combo plate set up yes with the holes

im using it for flattening and cutting in bevels on fresh from the grinder razor blanks

I see that consensus cannot be reached.
And I hadn't been expecting it either, after all, this is a forum with over 2.000.000 posts about shaving :biggrin1:

But it's really nice to hear everyones opinion.

I'm leaning towards the one without the holes.

Larry:
No, I won't send you money.
I bought 1 (one!) straight from you back in the days & look what you started,
a complete out-of-control mayhem of stones, razors & late-night honing sessions

:001_tt2:

I have an XX solid (used for lapping), the C and the F with holes (both used for edge restoration) and the E solid (used as a paper weight).
They all work fine, and I like them all as they are.
I'm sure I would say the same, if I had them in some other order. Humans tend to favor what they know and are used to. :001_smile

Kind regards,
Bart.
