DIY Brush/DE Razor stand

I couldn't figure out where I should post this so I am posting it here.
I have a number of old computer Motherboards laying around since I am a DIY computer build hobbyist. I got the great Idea to try making one of them into a DE Razor/Brush stand. THe reason for this is because I cannot see myself spending 6-110 bucks on something that just sits there holding the razor and brush. It's too much like getting a diamon encrusted golden toliet. When I get started on it, I will take pics as I progress. I will be using a dremel to cut the components off of the motherboard then to cut the motherboard into the shapes I need to assemble into a DE razor/brush stand. I figure this would make something totally unique that celebrates my hobby.

I'd be interested to see pictures of it. I myself am not that crafty so what I'm picturing is pretty wretched but I'm sure you'll drum up something nice. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I found a cool design here http://www.instructables.com/id/NO-LASER-SHAVING-STAND/#intro and I am in the process of sorta copying (by Eyeballing) the shapes into a Visio Design since you have to pay to download their damned PDF. Since Motherboards are thin, I am doubling the shapes so I can sandwich the double pieces together using some of the plastic Motherboard components. I will post a picture of the the finished stencil design. Then I will share it as a PDF for free for anyone on Badgers and Blades who wishes to try the same thing. After the design is finished, I will begin cutting the components off of the motherboard and saving them.

Heres a pic of the stencils of the pieces. It is not to scale. I will cut out the pieces from paper and see if they fit well together. If they do then I will post a link to the .pdf file (If it is permitted). Then I will start on the motherboard.

Sounds like an interesting project! Please do share the final results and feel free to link to a design document.

I saw this online and laughed so hard I needed to share it. There are times to be frugal and times not to be.

Yeah that one is pretty funny. There is another Hanger one.. but it was a lot better than that one. This dude made a stand alone razor/brush stand out of a wire hanger and it actually held the heavy DE razor and brush. He also spray painted it black So it almost looked like something you could find in a store.

You can use the stencils in the .pdf file to make a stand out of anything.. plexiglass, wood, or Pyrex(If you're crazy enough). I only doubled the stencils for the use of thin materials such as motherboards. If you choose plexiglass or wood, you will only need superglue to assemble the pieces. Thin materials might need more. For example my motherboard material will need to sandwich something between the double pieces and will need to be screwed together using small screws (I have plenty due to my hobby).

Has anyone tried putting something like http://www.amazon.com/Magcraft-NSN0604-1-Inch-Magnets-4-Count/dp/B000SO4L4E/ref=pd_sim_hi_1 on the bottom of their brushes? This way, with a long metal shelf, you can theoretically put as many as you'd like, so you can use the same shelf as your collection grows. I haven't really thought about how to incorporate razors into the equation, but I don't think I will own many. I have my EJ DE89L, and i want to eventually add a Gillette Slim.

Everything has it's purpose and I don't see that a razor stand is such a burdensome or an expensive extravagance. (Though I don't understand how someone could spend $110 or anything in that neighborhood on a stand.) Take what you earn in an hour and multiply that by the time and effort spent planning, producing and assembling the home made stand. Add any materials cost and then take a fraction of that amount and buy a razor stand. I can be "frugal" at times but this would not be one of those times. I've perused the home made threads and I'm sure it's fun to throw some of these things together but I'm pretty certain that SWMBO wouldn't allow the majority of them in our bathroom. YMMV of course.

Somewhere around here is a pic of a toothbrush holder from Lowes That hold four razor beautifully - I'm going to pick one of those up. Be sure to share the final product!

Hey everyone. I'm new to the whole wet shave deal and since I'm still in college I am on a shoestring budget. I had originally made the same wire hanger stand (no brush yet, but that is going to be my next purchase after some nice shave cream) but I decided I was going to need something a little more. Using some salvage wood and some cheap parts from Lowes (>$1.50) I made a nice urban stand. I'm thinking of making an instructable for it, but I wanted to share it with the good people of B&B before that. Let me know what you think.

Here's what I did, with a little bit of embroidery thread to hold the brush.$IMG_1107.jpg (can't seem to get the picture straight - you might all have to turn your computers on their sides)
