Dismantle RedTip

Just wondering since I was in the mood for taking things apart, has anybody ever managed to get the red tip off a RedTip so you can take the mechanism apart?

I have removed the screw inside the tip and thought it might just come apart, but no luck.

I think it's press-rolled in-place (see the smooth groove just above the knob, on the handle?), kind of like how fatboy knobs are attached.

You could pull it, I guess, but to get it back in place, you'd probably need onotoman's tool to press the groove back in.

(Others, please correct me if I'm off-base!)

First, after the screw is out, the doors should come off. To do that you need to bend those little tabs under the head that are connected to the blade holder bar thingy.
Once the doors are out, then yes, you'll have to force the knob out. Check out one of the threads for fatboy disassembly for ideas on how to do that. It should pop back in when you're done playing.
ANY disassembly of these razors comes with the inherent risk of doing permanent damage, so take care.

Oh, and do not do any sort of tapping at all on the bottom of the threaded shaft to get the doors out. It's threaded inside and out so it's hollow and bends easily. Once you put the slightest bulge in it, there's no going back to a nice functioning razor.

one more thing. There is a thread that describes how to take the knob out by using the resistance of the doors while turning the knob to force the knob out of its groove. That sometimes works, but sometimes it bends the shaft to the point that it splits where it's riveted to the blade holder.

Thanks guys, I said the tip and what i really meant was the shaft/doors, don't know how i typed that. So yes ok if the doors come off, thats all I was trying to do, just to see. I didn't find any other threads on the knobs, but that doesn't matter, it can stay there.

BTW for anybody else who reads this ever the screw in the bottom is REVERSE threaded, on mine at least.
