Dirty Bird Shaving Scuttle Arrived

This just came in Friday and it's a beauty. I posted a couple quick photos in the acquisitions/score area, too.

I opted for the 1.5 x size scuttle, and it's one big mamma jamma! I can't imagine the 2 x size scuttle. I waited about three weeks to get it after placing my order, which is what Julie told me it would be. (3-4 weeks, she said.)

It works great, just as advertised. With hot tap water, I found it kept my brush and lather warmish for fifteen minutes or so, good enough for three passes anyway. I did notice that the side of the brush resting on the scuttle was warmer than the other side. I could probably make it REALLY sinful with some boiling hot water from the microwave or teapot.

Now of course, I've decided I really need an original Moss scuttle or one of Julie's brush scuttles as I've become quite enamored with face lathering. If you have the time to use it and like to bowl lather, the 1.5 x size scuttle is about perfect. The ridges inside the scuttle do seem to help the lather whip up.

Very happy with this thing. Looks cool in the shave den, too. Only thing is, it is so big I have to put it on the other side of the bathroom counter, opposite my other shaving stuff.

Did I mention this thing is big ??

I'm really envious

These scuttles are lovely.

I have ordered from Julie a brush scuttle and lather bowl. Should be here this week. Since you're thinking about perhaps buying a brush scuttle, I can snap a few detailed pictures once I get mine. Just to feed your desire to get another one

Question: if you would have to buy again, would you instead opt for the standard size rather than 1.5 ? I'm asking since I might also buy a standard scuttle if I like the brush and bowl one...

hi cmaster03
cool scuttle, i like the razor stand?? local buy??
like your collection of razors .

One note of caution when using boiling or hot pot water in the DB - it can dry out your rather really quickly.

I've been using about one cup of hot pot water and the rest hot tap water. It took a while to find the right combination, but it is worth it.

Okay, can't remember how to do the multiple quote thing exactly, so here goes...

THANKS, for the nice comments.

Hmmm, good question. I think if you bowl lather, the 1.5 x is still the way to go, at least without having tried the standard or 2 x regular size to comapre it to. The 2 x would strike me as INCREDIBLE HULK big, but I know some guys have them and think they're the bees knees. YMMV, as they say. The 1.5 seems about the size of the late mug I've been using for a lather bowl, and the regular would be a tad too small for my use compared to what I have become accustomed to, if you follow.

Thanks, Midlander, cool tip, and very good point about the boiling water. In an email from Julie, she said the scuttle was fine with boiling hot water, but it would degrade the lather. Touche, got me on that one. Doh! Guess I'll stick with hot tap water, but I'll try your mix/experiment now.

I wish I could take credit for that COOL razor stand, but I got the idea from DA MAN hisself, Mantic59. I saw it in his videos, and in a bored, scotch-induced haze of late night research and 'net surfing, found one on ebay.

Man...great pics!

I have the Georgetown but I know what you mean...now that I have that, I feel I need a Moss for my face lathering days LOL!
