Dirty Bird Scuttle

I just bought a Dirty Bird Scuttle 1.5X size 1 piece. It works excellent. The size is perfect for making lather. My tap water is around 125 degrees and the lather stayed perfectly warm for my entire shave. I strongly recommend it!

Thanks for the review. It seems most people like the 1.5.

I keep looking at these and wondering if it is something I really need.

I guess I'll just have to take the leap and get one.

Worst case scenerio if I don't like it I can put it on the b/s/t and see that it gets a good home.

I just got mine, too. Used it for the first time this morning. Worth every cent.

Realistically a scuttle is not something you need. For that matter, you don't really need a bowl either since face lathering is fine (and convenient enough many prefer it). Heck, as long as we're talking about needs a brush is really just a luxury too, as you can create lather with your bare hands and slop it on your face without a brush too.

So having said that we don't really need any of this stuff, I'm very pleased with my scuttle. The $3.99 cereal bowl I was using couldn't always stay hot long enough for the first pass (sounds ridiculous I know, but the cold soap and/or cream and 2 minutes out of a hot water bath was often enough to bring it down to lukewarm before the brush ever touched my face). With the new scuttle however the lather stayed warm/hot for 3 passes and hadn't even started cooling down when I was finished with my shave (about a 10-15 minute weekday shave).

The hot lather also gave a better and more comfortable shave, a benefit obvious in hindsight but one that I had not considered. I was just excited about the luxurious feeling, which was pretty awesome too :)

I also got the DB 1.5x and think it's a great size.

I did not need to boil any water for mine either. I filled it and the sink with hot tap water before my shower and let it take a hot bath for those 10 minutes or so, then after my shower drained everything, got the tap water hot again, then re-filled the scuttle with fresh hot water from the tap and that seemed to work quite well.

Can't wait to shave tomorrow

I won a DB scuttle in one of the carnival contests and got it in the mail on Monday. Today is day 2 of use and I love it!

I fill it with boiling water from a tea kettle and it keeps the lather super warm. The best part is I don't have to wipe the soap and stubble residue from the outside of the scuttle like I would from the mug I would keep in a sink of hot water.

I've tried making a lather with my bare hands and only end up making drippy soapy water. Perhaps you have a special technique for making rich thick lather with your bare hands?

No I was just (not very clearly it turns out!) trying to say that almost everything we use to shave might make our shave far better but we could theoretically shave without it.

The only lather I've ever made with my bare hands is to wash them or get my shampoo sudsed up to wash my hair. I see no reason to punish myself by shaving with the likes of that, I'll stick with my badger brush, scuttle, and superlather thank you!
