Dirty Bird Bill Bowl

I am planning to order one of Julie's bill bowls, but I've noticed a lot of folks ask for customizations. I get the height thing, but could anyway explain what the benefits are to:

--Straight sides... Doesn't flared keep the lather in?

--smaller width... Doesn't going smaller make it harder to lather?

Thanks!

I have a straight sided Bill Bowl and don't have any problem keeping lather in. The trouble with the flared sided (so I heard) is that lather can get trapped near the bottom and be hard to get at.

Either way they are great. I love mine!

I'm actually planning on ordering one of these same bowls later this week. I have a question, though. Are there any colours available other than the three listed on the site? I plan on ordering the standard bowl, and the blue rim on spice colour is quite attractive, but I would like to know if there are other colour options available before I order.

Best to ask Julile (the potter) on this as only she will know, but yes there have been non-shown glazes available. The nicest I think is "Randy's Red" which is an earthy clay colour.

I am using my BillBowl right now, standard one, no mods. It works perfectly. I know I have posted about it clanging the brush in the past, but the past few days I haven't noticed any issues with it and the ridges in the bottom are great for building the lather quickly. My appears to have the concave sides and again I didn't even know it was an issue until I read it and see no problem with it. If anything, they aid in keep the lather IN the bowl and I'd suggest them over straight sides.

After seeing all the mods and shorter heights people were getting I thought I would want a shorter one, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the standard height. Makes a good bowl to soak your brush bristles in too, whereas the shorter one you may have to soak the entire brush (which I don't).

I'd like to know if anyone has had both and notices a considerable difference from the standard to the 1/2" shorter modded one.

for those wondering what a Bill Bowl is, it's a larger lather bowl as seen below with my M&F L7 for size comparison with a pic of the lather swirls on the bottom, made by the best potter and of the nicest people out there :thumbup1:

High praises for Julie from me. I own 2 pieces and have dealt with her on others (Travel Scuttle and 2 pc brush scuttle, which are now sold off)

I forgot that I ordered one back in the beginning of June. This thread just reminded me that I haven't gotten it yet. It says 4-6 weeks, and it's been about 8. I just sent Julie an email to see when it may show up. I can't wait.

Any other bill bowlers out there who can chime in?

There are, but I'm not sure how many. Trust me, it's a great lather bowl.

Click here to see one of my early lather videos and you can see it in action. As you will see the concave sides helm the lather stay "IN" the bowl, instead of all over the place.

The past 5 days using it have made me realize it's an amazing little bowl, easy to handle, not too heavy to hold and lather and whips lather up in a frenzy.
