Dior Fahrenheit: I caved

I posted a thread a while ago where I agonized over whether or not I should buy a bottle of Fahrenheit. Got some great advice and a nice decant to experiment with--many thanks everybody! I decided to pick up a 1.7 oz bottle. Then I got distracted by things and put it off.

Yesterday, I unexpectedly came into a bit of cash from a long-forgotten debt. I kept a little out for myself before putting the rest into the rainy day fund and thought I'd buy something from my list of deferred desires. I was driving by an old department store in town this morning, so I stopped in to see what they might have. Behind the frag counter, I noticed a worn, boxed bottle of Fahrenheit. I asked the lady at the counter (who has been working there for ages) about it and she seemed kind of embarrassed. It seems that someone put it on layaway years ago and they stuck it in the cabinet behind the counter and forgot about it. She said that she was straightening out things a couple of months ago and found it, along with a yellowed note to hold it for some long-lost potential buyer. She felt bad that it was in the old style box and got the manager to give me a discount. So now I have 3.4 oz of an older incarnation of Fahrenheit and I am quite happy with myself.

Wow, awesome score. The current formula is a great scent, but the vintage is in a whole other league of awesomeness. Great score sir!

Congrats. How's it wear? I just picked up a bottle at Target the other day. It doesn't have nearly the sillage and longevity I was expecting. Wondering if this is one that's gotten lighter wearing over the years?

Yeah, it's been hit pretty hard from reformation. The current version is skeletal. It's still a good scent, but certainly not what it once was.

Great find on the vintage Farenheit. Growing up in the 80s everyone was wearing Farenheit and it is a scent that I still use to this day. A few of you have mentioned differences between the old and reformulated versions of the cologne. Personally I do not feel that the change has been that drastic, a good cologne is always a good cologne. Farenheit may be one of the oldies bit will also be one of the goodies. Happy Shaving, Sam.

One of the few, if not only, benefit for me of having a sense of smell that isn't that sensitive, I'm not as apt to notice the differences between vintage scents and current formulations as others are, so I can generally enjoy the current versions just as much as the originals, if they are just not as strong. But I didn't use Farenheit when it first came out, so I enjoyed the current version first, and like it quite a bit.

Congrats on the score, Nid! Cool story, and it's one that will keep many of us scouring the stores for similar finds!

I never wore it in its heyday either, so Fahrenheit is a rather recent discovery for me. I've tried the current version before in Duty Free shops and I thought it was just fine. I got very nice longevity out of it yesterday. I like the violets, the leather and the Dior house note (or whatever it is) is also distinct. I love it.

To me, Fahrenheit is like the result of a challenge posed to the designer. "Take the structure of Knize Ten, use that to reformulate Grey Flannel, and Dior it!"

Got the 200 ml new formula Fahrenheit, and it's still pretty darn good - in fact it's awesome !

Fahrenheit Absolute is a new take on it, and on par with it or even better IMHO !

I have about an inch left in a bottle that my Wife bought me the first year we were married (1989). I've savored it and obviously used it sparingly. She loved it on me then and still does. Nice score.
