Different blade points.

Hi Badgers,

I have been looking at straight razors and I was curious...

What is the difference between the blade point styles?

Is there a different application for each blade point shape?

What are some of the pros/cons to having a rounded point rather than, say, a Spanish point? :confused1

The closer to a square point it is, the more careful you have to be when navigating softer areas like the neck and such. It has a propensity to dig in sometimes. After that it's more an aesthetic thing.

Also a square point lets you know exactly where the cutting edge is, which is useful when touching up sideburns, sides of goatees etc.

The difference is...

Spanish points are cooler :)
(I also think that spanish and barber's notches create a "lip" when the razor is closed to aid in opening it if the scales are tight. But really, I think it's just 19th century marketing...

If you "ease" the very tip, any and all tip shapes can be as mild as can be, just choose the one you like best.
