Differences in arch of razor heads

Just wondering if anyone else notices a difference in how a razor shaves based on the arch on the head? I have used my Merkur HD and several old Gillettes (Fat-handle Tech, NEW short comb, 40's SS, Slim Adjustable, Red Tip) and notice that all other things being equal (same prep, soap, blade, and usual WTG, XTG, ATG passes) the razors with a greater arch in the head (by far the HD by my eye) give me the best shaves. The Tech and the New (which have flatter heads) both produce acceptable results but need more touch ups, and the TTO's (thicker heads and flatter) usually need even more touch up yet. To my eye this corresponds pretty much with the amount of arch of the razor head and the steeper the arch the better the shave I get.

Anyone else experience this (even in the reverse) or am I way off with this observation? Is this effect on the shave possibly due to the amount the head bends the blade from flat?

This seems to be one of those YMMV situations, but you're right on as far as I'm concerned. I get a much better shave from my Merkurs than I do my vintage Gillettes and I attribute it to the same thing you do.

Here is a razor I have with the biggest arch I have seen. The only markings on the razor are a 6 on the top of the head and one on the bottom of the cap.
This razor shaves like a dream
