Difference in Top Caps - Gillette NEW

I wonder of anyone can tell me the difference in the two types of NEW caps shown - they both seem to fit the baseplate shown below. The corner nubs on the cap are sized differently as well as the longitudinal stabilizers (not sure if that's the proper term) .. Were they made for different razors or at different times or ??

There's more then 2 different NEW caps.
There's one that only works with the short comb base plate.
Seems the earlier caps were copper and the later ones were brass.

You've probably seen more caps up close than anybody. Is there really any difference between New, New Deluxe, and Tech caps (excluding those newer Tech caps that don't have that little bar)?

Most of them are interchangeable except for early short comb caps with the extra large corner nibs, these fit in the cutouts on the short comb base plate and won't sit properly on a long comb base plate.
Some of the Tech caps, even with a center bar are made of zinc, the only way to check without grinding through the plating is to check the weight.
Copper or brass caps weigh 14-15 grams, zinc caps weigh around 10 grams.
