Difference between Platinum and Stainless

I was just brushing my teeth and looking in my medicine cabinet where all my shaving goodies are and noticed the blades I have been using are Stainless and I have an un-opened pack of walmart platinum personnas. Should I expect a better shave from the platinum blades?

What's the difference anyhow?

Platinum is used in the coating. The platinum blades are stainless as well.

Platinum is used to treat stainless edges for hardening purposes, increasing the life of the blade. The local Kroger sells these blades under their own label without platinum treatment, and word is they aren't good for much more than 1-2 shaves.

From my experience with astra's and sharks. The platinum blades tend to be a little smoother. The SS may be a little sharper. All last for 3 or 4 shaves easy.

My preferences are Astra platinums and Shark stainless.
