Difference between Ball End Tech

Hi all!

I have an old English Ball End Tech in aluminum, weighing ca 30 grams, with a 71 millimeter long handle, and when I'm looking at mr-razor's site I guess it's from 1950.

Now I bought another English Ball End Tech, but this one is heavier and the handle is 75 millimeter long.
I have no scale at home to weigh the new razor but I guess the handle is made of brass.
But can you tell the appr. age by the weight AND the length of the handle?

Another difference between the two Techs are the top caps, on the left is the aluminum Tech and to right you have the heavier/longer Tech

Hello, both were made during the 50ies, I think their production overlapped. All brass ones are around 63 g, these are the heaviest Techs.

I tried this razor today and I have to say, wow...
Compared to my other Ball End, this one is both smoother and more efficient.
I think this is because it weighs about twice as much.

Anyway, this heavy Tech with an Astra SS and arko shave stick was one of the most comfortable shaves so far

Those Techs are great shavers IMHO!!

The consensus is that later 50s techs are smoother than pre-war triangle slot Techs. My experience is the opposite. Triangle slot Techs are my favorite Techs but I have a new British Flat bottom I haven’t tried yet...

I agree with your assessment that the heavier Tech is a smoother, more efficient razor than the aluminum Tech. Congratulations on having both!

The Fat Tech handle is really something too. Paired with a brass tech head it's perfection!

I do have an old British Fat Handle too, a Flat Bottomed.
Very nice shaver, good grip on that handle and a very smooth shaver.
