I'm curious because it would seem that sons would shave like their fathers do.

My father shaves with a Mach 3 (and always has). I was curious if I was shaving correctly with my Fusion, so I Googled "how to shave" and soon realized that there was better out there.

My dad was all about the disposables, and then later the Trac 2. I don't remember what he shaved with in his later years though...he didn't have any preference either way, sometimes an electric, sometimes a disposable...he thought Mach 3s were pretty cool. I remember as a small boy though he DID used to use a red tip SS, but he never liked DEs overall, and jumped ship in the 70's.

- My grandfather shaved with a straight.
- My father shaved with a black handle super speed. Funny thing is I recently took a whiff of Brut aftershave in Walmart and realized that he also used that back in the day.. For some reason my dad never discussed shaving with me so it took me 17 years to figure this thing out :)

I can remember my father shaving with a DE before he went to cartridges. I also remember my granddad shaving with a straight and bar soap.

my father did shave with a DE however like most he switched to the cartridge/goop combo when it came out. He has a renewed interest in it ever since I started. He has to look around in my parents basement for the actual DE. Fingers crossed.

My grandfather had a single tech he used for many years, until switching to an Injector in his later years. He also used Old Spice soap and a badly worn brush. Dad always had a variety of TTO DE's (Superspeeds, I think) with his last being a black Super Adjustable. He used that until recently switching to an electric as shaving is getting difficult for him now. He always used the sale foam of the day, and Brut aftershave. Neither he nor my grandfather taught me to shave, and I learned by trial and error on dad's DE's. After a few bad cuts, I went to disposables and cheap foam until rediscovering 'proper' shaving about 2 years ago.

Hmmmmmm well as far back as I can remember my dad used an electric but after I graduated from high school and moved away (quite a few years ago) he switched to the disposables but I think he is just hand lathering bath soap and not using goo in a can. (he's to frugal for that)

I asked my mom not so long ago if dad would be willing to try out my shaving soaps if I got him a brush and maybe even a DE if I picked him up one. And was told that I would have to ask him that question. (Still need to do that.) But as far as the DE goes my mom said she still has one, I would have thought it would have been dad's at one time. But he went with the disposables cause they were cheaper. I'm guessing he uses the single blade ones cause they are the cheapest. They tend to be very frugal. Mom said he thought about using the DE but the blades were expensive in walmart. (Today I looked, a few cents shy of $10 for 4 blades!!!! I about had kittens!!!) So when I get my stock of new blades in I'm going to give him several packages to use. So I might give him my cheapo boar until I get him a good badger.

After I get my dad using a DE, I'm going to work on getting my brother started. Of course it will help if i can supply them with a bunch of shaving soap. But heck this will make christmas shopping easy for them. Lots of great vendors here to help expand a shave den for them both. And my hubby !!!

So I'm going to vote for Art since I know he did a little of both.

Let us know if you ever ask your dad. I am thinking of getting my father a shaving kit once he retires (so he can't use that "no time" excuse on me ).

my father shaved with the SAME Gillette Rocket that I use now. It was given to him new from his father when we was a teen and I have had it for many years now.

My dad used a DE, Dial soap  & Old Spice. Religiously. And even back then, WAY before I started shaving I remember thinking, ewwww...Dial soap? :prrr: Even back then I figured there had to be a better way.

Nice. Maybe the razor will become a family heirloom. After I clean it up, I'll be using my grandfather's Gillette Super Speed.

My Dad has always shaved with a DE and still does , guess thats were i got the licking to , i have always used cartridge shaving razor since i started shaving, i am 32 and having been using DE razor for the past two years.
For me its the best way to shave, i love it.

My Dad used a DE when I was a kid, and hated it. I have a vague recollection of him always walking around in the AM with bloody toilet paper stuck to his face.
He jumped ship when the Gillette Good News twin blade disposable became available. He said they were like a "gift from God".

He has expressed an interest in my new hobby/obsession, and I've got him using Proraso and Col Conk with a brush so far.
Getting the Sensor out of his hands I think will be a little tougher, although he did want me to send him some pictures of my 1958 TV Special.

At least I got him away from the goo in a can.

Grandfather shaved with a Gillette TTO of some sort and dad used to use a schick injector until he switched to disposables.

I can vaguely remember dad shaving with either an SE or DE razor, and I remember having an SE (empty) as a toy... but mainly I remember him using a 2-head Norelco electric razor. Wishing I still had that single-edge razor, and whatever else it was he was using back then...

According to my mother, my mother's father shaved with a straight razor, and later DE.

My dad's dad shaved with a DE (I think), do not know what he uses now. My father has been a staunch proponent to the cheapness and usefulness of BiC's and has been using them for ages and ages.

Yep, Gillette TTO. Cant remeber what type it was though. IIRC it wasn't adjustable and the handle was short so I'm guessing it was a Super Speed of some type.
