Did I damage my brush

I have been wetshaving for about 4 months and my first and only brush is an EJ BBB which is great. I don't have a brush stand, and I read that that was fine as long as I rinsed and dryed the brush thoroughly so it did not mildew. So for the first three months I would shake the stuffings out of it with a series of ten hard wrist snaps. The past month a realized that was unnecessary just do a few gentle squeezes and shakes. I just watched Mantics video on brush cleaning and he warns against the exact behavior I used for three months saying that it can harm the knot. Is there anyway to tell if this has happened? I am planning on the brush sticking around for a long time. The other week several hairs feel out in the same week and I wonder now if it was a result of my former drying method.

I haven't had any issues with a good few hard wrist snaps every morning. Depends on the brush maybe? My friend made my brush and he uses a generous amount of epoxy so im pretty confident in its strength.

I don't think so. I use the brushes that I have to "scrub" my lather bowl and scuttle. Shake the hell out of it and then wipe it on a towel. I don't have hair issues except that I can't keep any of it on the top of my head!

Take Care,
Richard

Your method was fine. I give mine a couple of good shakes and sqeezes, brush it a couple of times against a dry towel and that's it. I'm sure your shedding issue will settle down. Not to worry. If the shedding continues its the brush's fault, not yours. Really.

What you're doing shouldn't cause any problems with your brush. After I wash mine out first with hot then cold water, I give it quite a few good hard wrist snaps to make sure I get all the water out before I hang the brush in a brush stand. I've been doing this every shave right from the first time I used the brush and I've had no problems at all. I think any problems you might have would have to do with a defect with the brush, and should be reported to the place you bought the brush. Go ahead, shake away. :w00t:   :thumbup1:
