DFW Get-together?

Man. i really wanted to make it, but we really couldn't leave the party. There was a bunch of family and stuff. And people that i hadn't not seen me for a long time just wanted to keep talking and catch up. It didn't help that we were part of the ceremony.

And then my cousin who just turned 21, thought it was a good idea to challenge a few of us to out drink him. We ended up carrying him home. lol, he couldn't keep up.

Alright, I have to confess I really didn't think my left handed self would connect enough with a fountain pen to really make this all worth it. The time spent working on improving my handwriting was useful regardless of the fountain pen results. I really didn't understand the affection some of y'all had for pens. I put up with shave get-togethers turning into fountain pen discussion groups, without much interest or understanding.

But Tom and Daniel are persistent. Glad neither of you sell life insurance or seem to be involved in an MLM.

Completely digging the fountain pen trial. Can't explain it, really. Not very good at it, but I haven't smeared anything yet and it seems to be a smoother way to write. The smearing part alone astounds me.

Similarly I wasn't too excited about the soap trial, but at least I ended up with a scent I dug. I've mostly moved over to the cream side and dig the Nuka from Bulgaria that Daniel sampled out previously.
But, in the spirit of helping a brother out, I figured I'd try out the soap and Jesse seemed like a nice enough guy, who had to beg to get it made in the first place. His presentation didn't leave my inner cynic expecting much. It sounded too good, too complicated lathering and who's parents own soap factories anyway?

So off for my nightly shave I went, planning to try out the Green Mountain soap, figuring that if it didn't lather up, I could switch out easily enough.

Keep in mind, I don't use a lot of soap and I can't say I get amazing results when I do, but wow that soap rocks.

This the first soap that resembled the lather pictures other people post. This soap actually felt slick. It took a lot of water to get it there, as promised, but it got there. Wow!

One DFW Get-together, two surprising changes of opinions.

Thanks for sharing stuff and encouraging new hobbies. I wasn't really up for trying these on my own, but with friends like y'all, I found stuff I didn't know I'd like.

Wahoo! Glad it worked out for you. Don't make too much "lather porn" now that you know how. :001_tt2:

Jody, glad to read that the pen is working out for you.

Jesse- Haven't made it to the soap as yet but the reviews thus far look pretty good. My latest rule is that I must finish two products before starting a new one. The Green Mtn. has been moved to the top of the list but I have the remains of a puck and the dregs of a tub of cream to finish first.

Since the puck is a little tall, I only have one tub to put it in. It had a few more shaves in it but I helped it out by scraping it out and washing the tub. Think I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Very smart, Daniel -- every product should get the benefit of several attempts at testing, and you are going way above and beyond to actually finish products before starting new ones. Kudos. (Also, I'm sure your shave den doesn't need quite the lebensraum that some dens need...)

While the puck works fine as-is, I agree with folks who shred and re-press the soap into another container. It does lather easier that way. Can't wait to hear about the results, either way. I'm seeing a pattern of good results, but it's always great to see people's individual experiences.

Used it on my 12 y/o shaving off his ratty little mustache and the peach fuzz collected elsewhere. He dug it too.

After shaving he asked when I'll take him to a get together.

Thanks again for yours and Tom's persistence. I've never been drawn to shirts with pockets other than the fact that most button up shirts have them. My next order of work shirts will all be pocketed.

I put it in a bowl that will get lidded when the puck gets worn down a little.

i was glad to come back. good to meet you all and sorry i missed the other ones. odd what you miss when you don't post for a few years.

How about we plan for Aug 17th and Oct. 26th for the next two gatherings? And how about starting at 1100 for the next one?
