What's new

Desta/tressa

My wife was going through some old stuff the other day and found a watch that probably belonged to her grandfather. It's a dual-zone mechanical watch. Still works, looks pretty cool, in good shape except for the scratched and cracked crystal. Would a local watch shop be able to replace the crystal?

After some digging around on the Internet, it seems Tressa was a Swiss watch company in the 60's and 70's, and Desta was a Tressa brand. That symbol on the back is a stylized "TD", which I'm guessing stands for "Tressa Desta". Does anyone know anything more about these watches? If you've got one, post some pics in this thread.:w00t:

I suspect the crystal can be replaced given you find a good watch repair shop. I can't help with much else other than to say it's a beautiful watch, I do think it's worth the time and money to get that one fixed up to be put to use.

Best of luck!

Can you open the cover? I would really like to see the movement.

I wouldn't know where to begin doing that. If it's something I can do without serious risk of damaging the watch, I'd be happy to take some pics/video and post it here.

Oh, man. Once I get an idea in my head...I have no impulse control. Anyway, here's a crappy photo

and an even crappier video
Very cool--I'm glad I saw that. I hope I didn't damage anything.

...aaaaand, I broke it.

Don't know what I did, but when I put it back in the case one of the watches stopped running. The crown can no longer turn the screw in the winding direction. Anyone know a good watch repair shop in the greater Boston area?
