Derby Professional

Anyone use the Derby Professional blade? The ones I have are single edge in that it looks like a double edge split right down the middle. I use them as a double edge in my DE razors. I just drop one of these half blades on each side of the razor and when you tighten down the gates, the blades are locked in just as if it were a regular DE blade. Anyway, the saves are great and last me about five shaves. I bought them at Sallys for around $9.00 for a 100 pack, which used the way I use them, it equals out to 50 blades.

Unless they are better than the regular Derby blades. amazon has 200 for like 15 or 100 for just under ten so I don't see any advantage to a Frankenstein blade the spit blades are for shavettes the fact they have them at Sally's indicates that they are likely used for straight razor haircuts

That's true. They are probably for straight razor shavettes. But, they do fit in a regular DE razor so that's how I am using them. True, there is no advantage in getting them, but not a great big difference in price. The truth is, when I bought them I thought they WERE for regular DE razors. The sales girl at Sally's didn't tell me any different. I was going to take them back but first I tried them in my DE razor and they worked, so I decided to keep them. I was just wondering if anyone else used them in a DE razor.

Sounds to me like a lot of extra trouble to load and possibly dangerous in some razors that don't have the safety tabs on the cap, like a Merkur Progress for example. The half blade could easily wiggle out of alignment.

That would not be fun. I got 100 Derby Extra blades for less than $10

Well, these blades are not any trouble to load. Just drop in one at a time. They have notches that fit the posts of the razor so they do not go out of alignment (in fact, they fit better in my Gillette Tech than a standard blade). I have them, they fit my razors well, they give me great shaves, they were not expensive, they are not dangerous in my razors, and I'm going to keep using them. I'm certainly not going to throw them away. When they are all used up, I might even buy another box. I guess I'm the only guy who uses them. That's ok. I've always been a little out of the box anyway.
