Derby Not for me =(

Just tried a derby for the second time today on my lord L6, and not to drag it any longer it didnt go quite well. It tugged and it left me with a lot of stubble. It left me with burn on my neck area as well. It was also my first time trying KMF pomegranate and I really doubt it was the cream because i only feel the burn in certain parts of my face. Won't be trying it anytime soon again I must say.

I had very bad luck with Derby too. I quickly realized they were not a good choice for me. Though many swear by them YMMV.

Tell me about it, I know my technique is not perfect but I know I can get good shaves with Red personnas, Sharks SC, And Astra. I wanted to like it since it's one of the cheapest blades you can get but it didn't work well for me. At least not on this particular razor.

Thet weren't for me either, and I had already ordered 100 of them...oops!

:blushing:

After someone mentioned it here, I tried them in an R41, and they are great in that. Go figure.

Don't throw 'em away.

FTR, my fave blade is a Personna Med/Lab, followed by Astra SPs.

If it means anything, I have been using Derby blades in an Edwin Jagger DE89 and they work fine. I have had 2 or 3 shaves from each blade and they don't pull or tug. This is in direct contrast with Wilkinson Sword (German; Wal Mart) that were suboptimal from the get go.

I use Derby's in my Super Speeds, Techs and Aristocrat with no problem. They provide a fantastic shave, but if I use one in any of my OC's it hurts like hell! Blades are very YMMV but sometimes it is the razor they are used in. If you have another razor give it a shot, if not by all means find a blade that doesn't hurt your face. But save the blades they my work for you later.

+1 I was planning to write the same. I cannot use them in any of my modern razors and they are not that great in my Old and New type razors. In the SS, Crats, Techs: A-OK!

My exact experience. Couldn't stand 'em in my EJ89...love them in my R41. I'll probably order 100 of them. Actually, yes, I'm gonna go order a 100 of them right now.

I've tried Derby's 3 times because they came with my DE89. They irritate my skin, so I found some Personna's at a dollar store that work until I can order some online.

I got irritation from them but not because of tugging, it was more to do with the amount of passes I needed to do to get a presentable shave. To me, they were milder shavers than the Gillette 7 o'clock greens I had been trying out around the same time, and a few times I did a 4 pass shave only to be left with a 5 o'clock shadow. Am I the only one who's ever experienced something like this?

Derby's don't do it for me in any razor I tried them in. One mediocre shave per blade at best. I gave them away to my dad and he liked them a lot better. He is on to 'better' blades right now and doesn't want them anymore but at least he got some use out of them.

For me they are a strong contender in the 'worst-blade-ever' contest.

My story seems to be the same as a lot on this thread. Worst blade I ever used on my EJ89... did I mention WORST! Put a Derby in my FaTip and lo and behold, one of the best shaves I had.

Hmmm. Not a lot of Derby love here I see. Well, I've been using them daily for most of the last two years and they work great. The last year I've been feeding them into a Slant razor which then gives a great shave.

Don't get me wrong I wanted to like them but thhey weren't as sharp or smooth as compared to the Personna Reds. I'll try to revise them later on when I get a new razor or perfect my technique.

I use my EJ to try out blades first and then depending on how they feel in that they get tried out on the R41.

I never liked Derby's after trying 4 blades, again I used these first as they were free with the Ej, so they have subsequently never gone on to the R41.

Other mild blades such as Racer, Asco and Rainbow have subsequently moved up the razor chain. In the UK these are the same price as Derby is from connaught (£12 for 200) so I'd much rather spend the money on these blades then even bother returning to Derby or actually trying them out on the R41.

Too many good blades to worry about the odd bad one.

I can tell you this: I'm no lover of Derby, but it's GREAT in a Slant. Then again, the Slant brings out the best in just about any blade.

I also use a L6, love a Derby! Yes they tug on the first pass compared to sharper blades, but ironically after 3 passes they leave me irritation free and plenty close.
