Derby Blade Question - Possible defect?

After a year of wet shaving, I bought 100 Derby DE razor blades. Very inexpensive. I change
the blade every other day. My razor is a basic Merkur 33C.

I noticed that when the blade is loaded, one side extends from the head just a bit further than
the other. The "longer" side affords a much better shave than the "short" side due to the exposure of the
edge. The "longer side" cuts like the other blades I have tried.

It appears the whole package is that way. I know they make these blades in a "run".

Is it possible that the blades were were not made just right? In other words, the alignment could be off.

If so, I will continue to use them and come away with the knowledge that it is possible for DE blades
to differ in levels of quality.

Thank you for any responses.

Well, thank you all! I truly did not expect so many responses. I expect it is the razor.

Good excuse to invest in a new one.

Thanks again gentlemen!

Sometimes 3 pieces have some "slop" in them and you can shift the blade from side to side before you tighten it down. Also, I've seen in other posts that Merkur's customer service is pretty good, but I don't have any personal experiences with them.

Poorly designed and built razors have that play and allow blade misalignment. From personal experience, Merkur and Dovo have poor Customer Service.
I was lucky enough to get a 33C and a 25C better than others. Not lucky enough when I bought other models. Returned them all so to avoid frustration.

As you said, good excuse to invest in a good razor.

I have experienced the same thing with a pack of Derby's. I didn't pay any attention to how much blade was exposed, but there was a definite difference between the sides of the blade. I suspected it was a quality issue. I use the same razors with other blades with no issues so for me it was not a razor issue.
