Derby Blade Coating?

THIS BECAME ALL SO VERY CONFUSING FOR MY MIND!
I was reading the cardboard slide out on a pack of Derbys (Also on the Carton too) & it states "Chromium-Ceramic-Platinum-Tungsten and Polymer Coated Edges" That's 5 different products! I'm no expert so I have to ask, is it really possibly to coat a blades edge with that many products? It just seems to me you would have a bonding issue with different base products or if they were separate coats seems to me that would be a lot of build-up on a edge. In turn I would think taking away from the sharpness of the blade itself. If they were different coats wouldn't it only matter what the last one was?

I like Derby blades but I don't buy it either. The blade as a whole certainly isn't plated like that as they are prone to rust. I suppose leading edge versus trailing edge of the blade edge could be coated with different materials which would help explain the ingredient list on the label, but I am skeptical.

The blades are Chromium-Ceramic-Platinum-Tungsten and the edges are Polymer Coated. The way that the package states it is poorly composed. And yes, it is possible to mix ceramic material into metals. As I recall, Derby gets their custom made rolls of steel from a mill in Sweden.

Thanks Jon! I can understand it now. I wasn't sure how they did it just seem to work though! Sounds like it takes a lot of work to make them as smooth as they are. One thing that I did notice was that my Derby blades seem to be more consistent in the color in their steel. A lot of other blades that I have used seem to have stains or light & dark spots through-out the steel in their blades. Maybe that adds to the quality of the Derby blade. Thanks again for answering my question...
