With all the talk about a shaving sabbatical again for 2013,,,, what say a pen/ink sabbatical for 2013 ???

Huh....Huh..

Oh hell I would probably only make it the first two weeks until the Philly pen show.

Lets see is there anything I could do without for 2013 ?

1. I have enough ink to fill a olympic sized swimming pool....no that's out I always need more ink.
2. No new "51"'s for 2013.....yeah right
3. No vintage pens at all..... That's a setup for failure.
4. Paper that's it....paper. Nope.... Need some new journals

Hummmmmmmmmmmmmm

I got it !!!!!

let's see if youse guys can tell me what I can abstain from in 2013 ??

Can't help you, I'm afraid.... my FPAD is just kicking into gear. I don't even know the meaning of restraint at this point.

You could do like I did and swear off buying notebooks by making them. Sure the upfront costs mean that you will probably need to make a dozen or more, but your not buying notebooks.

Ok I shall join and see how far I get.

But will add the following exceptions.

Replacement paper isn't counted.
Anything delivered in 2013 that was ordered in 2012 (postage can be painfully slow to Aus)
An Edison that I already plan to get in June/July.

For every "new" pen you get you must sell another pen of equal value on BST. For what it owes you.

When and where is the Philly pen show?

How about not so much as a vow of abstinence, but as penance for buying a fountain pen you must exclusively use a Jinhao X750 (with cartridge) for 7 days?

Oh come on, there is lots you can abstain from.
1. No Early 19th Century hand carved writing desks
2. No dip pens made from an ostrich feather
3. No paper made from belly button lint.

See, it's easy!

It's just like my new years resolutions.

How about no Olympic sized swimming pool to store your ink in?

I've been thinking about this sabbatical thing myself.

  1. No ink for 2013? Easy. I'm just not that sensitive to fine differentiations in shades. I paid $28 for a 50 ml bottle of Iroshizuku Asa-Gao, and realized that it was just as nice as the Namiki Blue that cost me $10 for 60 ml. Somewhat different shade, a bit less water resistant...I'll buy more ink when I'm close to running out of some basic color, but that might not happen for years.
  2. No paper? If I run out, I'll buy some, but I'm not likely to run out until 2014.
  3. Accessories like pen cases? Don't really want anything like that.
  4. No pens for 2013? Ah, that might be a little harder. Still, I already have everything I want in terms of writing performance and basic functionality, and I don't really need more just to sit around looking good. I'll have to give this more thought.
