Decent sandalwood shaving soap

I'm looking for a decent sandalwood shaving soap. I'm new to the whole brush and soap style of shaving
and I was hoping to get some info on some shaving soap that makes a decent lather and won't kill me on
the price. I figured this would be the place to ask as almost every question I've d so far has been answered by lurking on this awesome site.

Proraso Red tub, scent and performance are top notch. Saint charles shave's sandalwood shave soap and aftershave are excellent as well. I use that aftershave with the proraso red as well.

I would also try the red Proraso. It's definetly worth the money. The scent is (in my nose) a little sweeter than other creams or soaps. But i love it and can only highly recommend it.

Hi JesterSmith, welcome to B&B! Please post an introduction in our Hall of Fame when you get a chance--it's quick and easy. :thumbup1:

Happy shaves and again--WELCOME!

I have really enjoyed the Art of the Shave sandalwood puck that I have nearly used up. However, it is the old style tallow formulation. I have no idea if the new formulation smells as nice. I also have the Proraso Red but find it sweeter and more subtle than the AOS. It's a very nice soap but I like stronger scents.

Proraso Red certainly performs well and is inexpensive, but something in its scent was quite disagreeable to me. My favorite so far is Haslinger Sandalwood. Great performance. Some people think it smells too weak, but for me it's a nice subtle scent that lingers.

I also like the scent of C&E Sandalwood! But that's the only sandalwood I have used.
RazoRock and Haslinger make great performing soaps but as I said - don't know about the scent as I havn't tried them..

The TOBS sandalwood smelled similar to the AOS soap at less than 1/2 the price. If you want straight sandalwood, that's what I would do. Wasn't a fan of the red Proraso, smelled like a bit of sandalwood but then a medicinal smell as well.

I prefer AOS Sandalwood to all the others I have tried, for scent and performance, and yes its the tallow formula. It smells almost like cologne to me. TOBS isnt bad, just uneventful. It has more of a soapy scent to my nose but performs respectively. My least favorite for performance and scent is QCS. Takes work to lather (at least with hard water), and scent is way too literal to me. I mean it smells like Sandalwood very clearly, but thats it. It has no depth or complexity to it, it just smells like you are rubbing a tree on your face. To each his own.
