What's new

Decent new TTO's?

I was wondering if there are any decent TTO razors on the market now. The only new ones I've found are the Parkers and Weishis, and it seems like quality on those is a mixed bag at best.

Feather Popular. Also one sold on ebay- called a Misaki I think- it is a pretty well made and good razor from Japan- for about $12.95 plus shipping, but comes from a seller in the US.

Holy cow! That is pricey. Too bad the Parker's and Weishis aren't better instruments. I'll stick to my vintage SS for now, and keep on the lookout for a Krona.

you can also pick up a Lord TTO razor off amazon for fairly cheap, but honestly, it will be hard to beat a vintage Gillette. I have four razors, all TTOs, a Gillette SS, 2 Slims, and a Schick Krona. You can normally find Kronas for around $10-$15 and IMO they work great. The Slims are may favorite however, if you get a chance to pick one up, do it.

Another modern option, is the Derby/ Shaving Factory/ Ming Shi razor. It's a Chinese made copy of a Gillette Superspeed, but not quite as mild as the Weishi. You should be able to pick on up for $12-$15 from your local Sally Beauty supply store.

But truth be told, there really isn't a quality TTO made today that can come anywhere close to competing with a Vintage Gillette Superspeed.

By the way, I consider the Merkur Vision to be a joke razor: it's clownishly large, and it's internal components are made of plastic: not a razor that is built to last long term!!

Looks like I'll be sticking to vintage for a while! But that razor at Sally Beauty Supply is cheap enough to try, it can always be a backup or travel razor if I don't like it enough for daily use.

I agree 100%

The TTO at Sally's is a Ming Shi from Shaving Factory. I hate to love this razor. Coupled with a Feather, I get a wonderful smooth shave. The construction is nowhere near Gillette's but for the price and performance it's not bad. I saw this razor go for $7.99 clearance at my neighborhood Sally's.

I find just about all TTOs to be too mild. I had a Parker 99R that was possbly the sexiest razor I'd ever seen but it was just way too mild. I PIF'D it to my brother in law who is new to wetshaving. I have read somewhere that Parker has a new design TTO that is more aggressive.

*Have you tried any of the Gillette Aristocrats such as the 1934, 1936, British #15, or #20?
Have a look and have a try as they are far from mild and very effective and great shavers to boot.:001_smile

An open comb TTO is a dream razor for me! I think the Aristocrat OC are the sexiest but nothing wrong with Sheraton/Senator either :o16:
