What's new

🐗 Decemboar. Yup. It’s a thing! 🐗

I'm looking forward to participating in the Decemboar this year.

I have SOC Boar in Cherry and Proraso Professional Boar brush in my rotation. Rest 3 boars are sold. To remedy the lack of boars I've ordered a RazoRock (Zenith) boar and a Semogue Galahad 2 band boar.

This'll be my first Decemboar and my curated rotation of boars will be ready to perform by the onset of December.

I'll need to line them up and get a picture, the last one I posted in the Brotherhood of the Boar thread is missing a few of them.

I have a new handle on the way that I'd like to get a shoat knot into, but I haven't been able to get shipping to my country worked out with the seller.

So.... I'm thinking that the proposed Derby December mixed with Decemboar sounds like a perfect match of classic shaving choices.

I'm in for Decemboar 2021!

I only have 3 Derby blades left, and they've not impressed me enough to buy another tuck, but I'll play while those last!

Decemboar Derby you say? I have around 98 Derby premiums that have been taking up space for a while now. It may be time to find a razor I think they work with... but if they shave like I remember I may default back to regular Decemboar.

I've already pulled all my boars aside to take over the cabinet next month. It's going to be hog wild! :taz:

That's the full (current) line up.

How does your unbleached Zenith compare to the bleached one?

Also I noticed you have a Goodfellas smile Wild Hog. Do you have a Proraso Pro as well? I kept getting conflicting information as to weather or not they have the same knot only at different depths.

Also...I'm in for Decemboar!

I have two Zenith pigs, both with 24mm/56mm knots one bleached, the other unbleached.

The unbleached one is an efficient scrubby lather machine with lots of backbone and holds enough lather for about 4 passes with no trouble, the bleached one is a floppy mop, that eats lather, feels as soft as a cloud, and eats like lather like no tomorrow.

Maybe it's me but I struggle to use the unbleached one, the bleached one is one of my favourite brushes.

I also have the Goodfellas Smile Wild Hog, it has a slightly strange shaped knot, somewhere between a bulb and a fan but it works well for face lathering, it's got a 26mm/57mm knot, it's got a good amount of backbone and it's quite efficient. In the UK at least, it can be bought for about £6 and I personally can't think of a better brush for the money.

Count me in for Decemboar! I have a humble line up that I am trying to break in a bit before the 1st. I recently got a Stirling boar, but it is so scratchy! Any thoughts on the 3 days in the fridge method? Does this really work? I am really ready to sacrifice the Stirling to see if it works.

I've read the fridge method is an exaggeration of the traditional method used by Italian barbers of soaking their new boar brushes for 3 days in room temperature water. I lather my new boar brushes several times then start using them. If they are particularly stubborn, I'll lather them in between uses several more times. Good luck with your Stirling, nothing I did got it to break in.

People don't believe me, but my Dad said back in the 50's he'd walk in the woods on the back 40 and see snow still not melted in May! We are between Flint and Saginaw, a decent distance from the 45th parallel. He said it was common, actually. I've never seen it like that back in our woods. Lol, the ol' f*rt is gone now, so I can't ask him if his half Irish was coming out, or the Stroh's, or both, when he made that claim!

How are you doing Yooper? It's been too long since we talked.

You've stolen all my hopes! :c1:

Sorry for the late reply, but I was at work and for whatever reason, the bosses don't want me to be participating on the forums! The noive of some people! :letterk1:

Let's just say that for the end of summer and into the fall, life has been trying to beat us (me and the missus) down. We had a cancer scare that seems to be a false positive. So we are very thankful for that! But the month of stress prior to her being seen by a specialist in Boston took a toll on us both! But we are slowly getting back on track with all the usual challenges she faces.

Thanks for asking, and I hope you and the War Department are doing well!
