Ready to go! The good thing about this is at the end of the month I'll have a more broken in brush.

Have those three all had the same amount of use? They look very different.

While I am here, I am currently breaking in an omega 48. Its a huge brush.

Anyways, despite me storing it upside down and scrubbing a towel, I can't seem to get the base of the knot to dry.

Ie I place my fingerbin the middle of the brush, and it feels damp.

Anyone have tips or experience with this?

Yes. I hang the brush in front of a box fan whenever I'm breaking one in and want to ensure it is thoroughly dry between daily uses.

I just loop a string around the handle and let the breeze accelerate the evaporation of moisture. Good luck...

Nope, the soc has had the most use, followed by the Omega Jade, followed by the essential brush. I'll prob lean on the latter two this time.

Just ordered a "Caravela" SOC from BullGoose. I'm not sure it's the same as a Mistura, can't seem to find a definitive explanation. I'm sure I'll love it regardless. Also snagged a Torga premium boar.

Haven’t heard Caravela mentioned in years. Cool.

Similar to Mistura IIRC but one has softer tips or something. I THINK both are 50/50 boar and badger, but not positive.

In any case, if it has one boar hair in the knot, it qualifies.

It is a great time to be back in B&B, this year I'm seasoned enough to get through an entire month with my Hogs.

Bonus: I've got loads of soaps to kill, I mean finish... I meant enjoy using.

IIRC, I have the hog of hogs - Semogue SOC in Cherry wood, the Sexy Galahad C3, and the well mannered RazoRock/Zenith Blondie in Olive wood.

Time to give them a bath to prepare for the upcoming month.

I don't plan on purchasing a new boar goodness but I'm known to heed my heart over mind.

Nice to see we have a healthy list going, and I -totally- forgot that the mistura brush counted, I will clean that one tonight just so it's ready. Probably won't get to use it during the month just because I want to really put some kilometres into others, but a lovely brush, very useable right from the get go.

I'm not. It's actually kind of funny. I've worked very hard to develop skills that let me fade into the background, to escape notice. And I finally see my hard work paying off here. Both in the DecemBOAR lists and over in the November GRUME thread I got bumped off one or twice. Now if only I could just somehow translate that over to the people who call about my cards extended warranty.

I see you have an Omega Jade. “More broken in” instead of “broken in” is accurate.

Hardest brush I have ever tried to break in.

From my experience and reading around forums, Omega boars have some issues with consistency. A few places I have read their Omega Jade's were too soft and floppy, after a quick break in, whilst yours was a difficult one to break in.

I recently placed an order for some Omega boars at Connaught and in the order of 4 boar brushes were two 10066's, I took out my calipers to measure the brushes. One of the 10066's has 24.0mm knot width, 54.4mm loft, glue bump of 8.7mm. The other 10066 has a 24.5mm wide knot, 54.0mm loft, and a 13.2mm glue bump.

So when they are both broken in, I presume one brush will perform a little differently to the other one.

However, these inconsistencies aren't things I see to be negatives, but positives. I like the variability of my Omega brushes, and they are brushes I enjoy using the most, irrespective of how much they cost. I think in Europe, a lot of their classics can be bought for less than £5, I bought 4 new ones recently for less than £20 a few months ago.

I am going to leave it til the last moment to gather my pigs for Decemboar. I think I might go for one short and stubby loft (10075), one with a bit of a floppy knot (a well broken in Zenith Euro X) and 'the big pig' (Goodfellas Smile Wild Hog).

I just pulled out the boars I shall be using in DecemBOAR. I have a stainless handled Zenith on it‘s way and will be in Spain next week, so who knows what else I may add to the boar collection!
