What's new

🐗 🐖 🐷 🐽 DecemBOAR 2021 - Only boar brushes… for all of December! 🐗 🐖 🐷 🐽

Today I learned there are ginger boars! 😜

Great brush!
Yeah I don't know what happened in the ~70 years the brush has been flopping around but it did manage to go from blonde to rust, It is however now perfect, so soft and with the perfect splay I'm pretty sure some of the split ends go all the way glue now.

Need some input….

Hope I don’t come across as pigheaded, but I was thinking that any of us with fairly new boars (hell, even older ones to see if they break in more) should take a pic of the knots now and also at the end of the month. Might be fun to see how much they break in over the month of DecemBOAR. Be it 30 uses, 5 uses or whatever.

You can post the before pics now, or at the end of the month. Or don’t. 🤪 It seems that the best boar “porn“ is pics of the top showing the tips splitting. But you do you.

Any thoughts of other ideas that aren’t boar-ing? Let’s have some fun!

Here are a couple of quick crappy pics of my 3. 2 more (new) Semogues and an Omega travel brush are also coming this week….

LOL. Hard to tell that the two Omegas were stored tightly together for 11 months, eh? 🤪

>> DecemBOAR 2021, day 3 <<

Semogue Galahad C3 Premium IT today for DecemBOAR.

I really enjoy the colour of the handle and the key hole shape, it fits nicely into my hand. The bristles are, if I'm not mistaken, the same as they come with the 830/1305. It's quite hard to dive into this topic more deeply since Semogue doesn't have a proper webpage in place (welcome to the 2020s, what the heck are they thinking?).

Anyways, it a very decent brush (which has just a hint of scritch, which might dissapear with further use).

Have some great shaves, y'all!

Omega 10066 meets Le Grelot 196 Le Petite Coiffeur, Pre de Provence 63 soap, and RazoRock Essential Oil of Lime after shave with a few drops of RazoRock Evil Eye Lime*.

The 10066 is one of my favorites - plain and simple - no fuss no muss. I have seen sellers describe the 10066 as 24 mm, but it feels more like 22 mm to me. Interestingly, Omega does not provide sizes on its website Omega Brush - Pennelli da Vernice e da Barba - https://www.omegabrush.com/.

Great way to end the work week!

*Evil Eye Lime contains grain alcohol which does not provide any sting. I would describe the product as more of a balm/tonic. Nice scent, though.

Ask me about shaving naked!
Double post, also in ‘Frameback Friday’ on the SR forum.

Gauthier rattler from Pont St Esprit, a souvenir from a past trip, 10€ at a brocante, but the scales were toast. No problem though @Doc226 fixed me up with some Turkish burl scales. Soap was ABC new version lathered with a SOC and a dab of Cade AS balm finished off Friday’s shave.

What’s catching my eye is the soap bowl!

DecemBOAR 3rd (3rd shave)
The excellent Semogue Butterscotch SOC Boar was chosen alongside the Barbasol Floating Head razor.
The SOC Boar is a special brush, even as an Onega fan, I’m glad that I bought and broke in the Semogue SOC Boar as it is truly an awesome brush. Soft bristles, like a cloud lathering your face.
Excellent shave and a tough lather for my next brush to compete with, oh what fun!

Fumbling about.

Cheap but very nice plastic handle. Much nicer than most. Good knot.

For the record, this is the premium boar.
Great resin acrylic handle.
Great knot. Some say it's unbleached.
Takes some serious breaking in.
It works a treat.

Vastly better than the Semogue SOC boar.

The unbleached Zenith boars are also vastly better knots.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Razor: Schick Type G
Blade: sChick (10)
Soap: Stirling Sheep
Brush: TGN 27mm knot in Trotter Handcrafts Cascadia Line

20211203_101023.jpg

Today, the Type G was used. Wow! It is probably just a whisker behind the Type I for me, but it was fantastic. So much so that it may get Ground Hogged tomorrow! And this morning was the TGN 27mm in the Trotter Cascadia Line. This is a taller knot, and exhibits floppiness, which I like. But what a lather eater! I had to reload between passes. It was well worth it, and between warm lather (Crown King scuttle is being used all month to start the building as well as keeping things warm!), the nice knot, the ergonomic handle, and the Type G goodness, I had a wonderful shave!

How is that wild hog brush? I'm thinking about getting either that or a Proraso Pro but I'm torn. How do you like it?
I like it. It comes out of the box pretty soft and usable (treated perhaps). I only have 12 shaves on it but it seems broken in to me. Compared to the Proraso Pro, the wild hog is floppier and less dense but still has a good scrub. I use both to face lather and both do the job well.

Pulled out a favorite this morning. Zenith copper scrubby boar. Short, scrubby and nice heft. View attachment 1372228
Looks great. I contacted the gentle Shave, he said he’ll order more of these around the start of the new year since it’s sold out, and it will take 6-8 weeks from there to arrive.

I did order the short black scrubby 48mm loft and the aluminum handle scrubby 50mm loft. Should be here today or tomorrow.
