Welcome. Nice trio!

My Mistura was out for delivery today and due to a “Item re-routed due to processing error; Possible delay” it is now slated for tomorrow. 👎

Omega 49 for me tonight. 👍

Need some input….

Hope I don’t come across as pigheaded, but I was thinking that any of us with fairly new boars (hell, even older ones to see if they break in more) should take a pic of the knots now and also at the end of the month. Might be fun to see how much they break in over the month of DecemBOAR. Be it 30 uses, 5 uses or whatever.

You can post the before pics now, or at the end of the month. Or don’t. 🤪 It seems that the best boar “porn“ is pics of the top showing the tips splitting. But you do you.

Any thoughts of other ideas that aren’t boar-ing? Let’s have some fun!

Here are a couple of quick crappy pics of my 3. 2 more (new) Semogues and an Omega travel brush are also coming this week….

LOL. Hard to tell that the two Omegas were stored tightly together for 11 months, eh? 🤪

Found this little piggy at the market (antique store) today, and it came wee wee wee wee all the way home with me.

I can't seem to find much info on the maker, Victoria. I have no idea how old it may be. It feels similar to my Ever Ready 200T, but with a shorter loft so I'll probably use it more often.

That's a lovely handle, congrats on a great find! Here's a link to an old post with a little info:

Decemboar Shave #2

The classic Omega 49. My first brush. Broken in nicely in its first year of use. Nothing in my (limited) experience lathers up a triple milled soap like a boar brush. Delightful face and head shave with the Blackland Blackbird. PdP makes me feel all fancy and stuff.

Well I'm combining the Derby event with the Decemboar event so due to the work schedule first shave of the month was today. Starting off with the Boreal brush. I know they aren't highly rated but this one has been holding up extremely well.

Break-in begins on the Omega and the lowly Van Der Hagen that I have had sitting on the shelf which should allow me a few shaves with them by the end of the month.

Is that container paper/cardboard like an ice cream container? Curious as I have never seen one in the flesh….

Indeed.. it is exactly like the dishes you commonly get ice cream in. Complete with a wax coating and the lid. I'm soaking the brush, loading up off the puck and face lathering. Then I'm letting is sit with the lid off until tomorrow to allow it to dry out a bit. I guess it's also going to be an experiment in how the container holds up or if I'll need to transfer the puck to another container.

Rubberset 153. It was pristine when it appeared on my trapline. No box, but unless it came out of drugstore stock, the former owner did not like it well enough to use it. I had to pay several dollars for it, definitely my best vintage brush find. It is a precise instrument, well matched by Ertan Süer's razor artistry

I doubt that I’m going to be observant every day in December, but I am having fun! I’ve been getting into boar more (see what I did there?) and needed a few more bucks for free shipping from Maggard, so I threw a red handled Omega 49 in the cart. At 15% of it was about $8.50. It arrived yesterday.

I agree with @SharpieB that the handle feels too light, and wonder if it’s hollow - maybe you could drill a little hole in the bottom and fill it with resin?

First off, it’s a big knot, about 25mm x 60mm. The knot is not as dense as a SOC, and the bristles aren’t as light. I also spent some time removing a lot of coarse black bristles, many of which stood above the crown. Not all these were ‘nails’ but many were, but for $8.50, no complaints, in fact I may get a black one. Red and black were my high school colors.

I test lathered it up and it’s a lather cannon. I’ve never been a lather pr0n guy, but this thing does it all by itself. The lather image is a good loading of MdC then bowl lathered in a slow feeder bowl to really work the knot and get out some boar funk which was actually not very bad.

The tips could be felt on the first shave, but I assume that will abate after a while. The cream was about 1/2g of AdP and AdP Colonia Intensa was the AS. Razor was a Shell 72 Silver Steel by Perfect Works.

The Omega '49 is a super knot and it's super easy to get it out of the cheap handle and put it in something more substantial.
