Decals. on Quality Brushes

Despite the careful handling of my Chubby 1 since last November, the decal on the handle is barely legible. Other than Simpson(Vulfix), are there any other quality brushes that sport decals that will be less than permanent and actually detract from the looks of the brush later? I don't own a Plisson, but if I were to buy one is the handle going to look good a year or two from now? The pictures make it appear as if the logo has a "decal like" edge to it. My Kent and Savile Row brushes don't seem to have their looks in jeopardy. My Semogue 610 decal is beginning to fade a bit but I didn't pay a premium price to own it. It is just a good utilitarian brush.

If it is an older Chubby 1 the decal is water applied and designed for failure. My own Simpson brushes with new style stick on labels show no wear after, for some, several years use. I would drop an email to Mark at Simpsons. He might send you a new one. Worse case they sell them for 1£ on the limited edition section of their site.

My other newer manufactured brushes all have applied markings that concern me. Thiers Issard, Rooney, and Vie-Long for example. Aside from the decal, the newer Simpson markings are engraved and less prone to wear and tear issues. I don't own a Plisson but from photos of them I would share your concern.

I emailed Simpson because I had two stickers fall off. They asked for my address and a week later I had 4 stickers! great service.

Hi Westaway,

Plisson uses decals as well, I believe. We tend to hear less about their longevity simply because they are not quite so popular as Simpsons. With a Plisson, however, there is no engraving. If the HMW label bites the dust, you won't really have any proof that it was a HMW. Simpsons has your back by engraving the hair grade.

I tend to peel off my Simpsons stickers. The brushes look great either with or without, IMO.

IIRC, the decal stickers were originally intended to be removed after purchase. I, like almost everyone else, leave it on. Mine has turned from gold to green, but can still be read on my Chubby 1 Best after two years. The engraving of the handle is very durable and mine shows no sign of fading. Replacements are available from Simpson.

Unless the name is engraved into the handle it is destined to be a short term thing.

I have a Savile Row and a Vie-Long that have painted on names that are showing wear. Rooneys, Shavemacs, M&F are all like this and decals eventually fall off.

I honestly don't worry about it.

Plisson used to be painted on I believe, but switched to decals because the painting would fade and look poor while also not being easily removed. Don't Kent use decals, as well? I believe all the big names do. I expect they think it's a better option than the alternatives for some reason.

I haven't had any trouble with Simpson decals since the acquisition by Vulfix, the earlier ones were another story. Plisson decals seem to be durable too as one of my brushes is about 5 years old, used regularly and no sign of wear.
