I wanted to give a bit of an update. I'm still being a bit stubborn and not declaring that it's a soap issue. It very may well be, but I'll try everything on my side before declaring it so. This is my first hard soap (proraso green was my exclusive soap for years), so I didn't want to rule out user error. Anyway, I was hunting around the forum and stumbled across this thread.
I decided to try hydrating, loading, and beating the crap out of this soap before giving up on it, and the results were better! They weren't perfect (still evaporating more quickly than I would like), but I think it is more of a technique issue, and less of a soap issue. Next time, I'll try beating it for even longer and hopefully I see even more improvement!
