DE shaving with shave foam

At one point in time, I was lathering 20 times a day to compare consistency between brush and soap/cream combos. Just short of examining the bubble structure under a microscope.

Nowadays, I shave at least one a week with Barbasol/Foamy, I like the smell.

Does any of you shave without a brush? How tough is your beard, how often do you shave and what is your preferred gear? Personally, I have never managed to shave off anything longer than a day's growth and then again it only works with creams (also shaving creams meant for brushes). Soap or oil...

tl;dr - if I must use canned stuff, then gel, not foam. But my skin reminds me of my mistake after the shave, so I practically always use creams and soaps.
