DE shaving so far ~
Over the last couple of weeks I have been using a Gillette Super Adjustable, also known as the “Black Beauty”, so that I could get re-acquainted with DE shaving. Thus far I haven’t had any problems with razor burn or cuts, although I did have one very minor nick. A couple of days ago I decided it was time for a change of pace. I change blades approximately twice a week. So last blade change, a couple of days ago, I loaded up my new Edwin Jagger D89L with one of the Dollar Store Personna blades that I have been using.
The shave today was the best shave that I have ever had. Shaving with the D89L is an entirely different experience than that with the Gillette. It’s a shaving machine and shaves like a dream. Not to demean the Gillette razor, but I had to “work it” much harder to get a decent close shave, than the D89L. Using the D89L is so easy, one pass takes off most of it and I am hard pressed to see why anyone would need any more than two passes with this razor to get a fantastically close shave.
So if you are on the fence about the Edwin Jagger D89L take the plunge, you’ll never look back. I have a feeling the Gillettes that I have will be getting a lot less use in the coming weeks and months. The only other DE razor that intrigues me at this time and that I want to put through the paces is the Merkur C39 Slant to see how it performs. So I think I’ll be pursuing one of those in the near future.
