DE Razor Head Styles

Hey guys,

I have grown my collection of DE razors to include a few TTO's as well as 3-piece razors. I've noticed somewhat of a trend after shaving with several different styles in a rotation. I have noticed that because of the way a TTO head is shaped, I don't get quite as close a shave as I do with a 3-piece design. It's not necessarily true on say my cheeks or chin, but more around my neck, possibly because of the way my hair grows or how the head seems to move along my neck. I just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem I have with not getting a closer shave with a TTO than with the 3 or even 2-piece head designs. Could it be because I still don't quite have the right blade? I mean when I shave my whole face with a 2 or 3-piece razor, I get my entire face really smooth. Maybe I need to work on my technique on the TTO's as well, perhaps.

Doesn't make any difference to me except that the Superspeeds are quite mild. If I use an adjustable, it is every bit as close as I get with a 3-piece.

I'm with the OP on this one . I use any 3pc , a new , old , tech or whatever and can get a great shave . Give me a SS or red tip and I get all kinds of irritation and maybe some blood leaking out also , not to mention a shave that I could beat with an electric razor . Can't figure it out . The only TTO that has been nice to me is a super adjustable . I've just given up on the TTO . It's a shame too , cause I just love the way a 40's SS looks and the ease of blade changes .

Its a mix for me. I can get a decent shave with a SuperSpeed. My NEW gives me very very close shaves if I take my time. My Triangle slot Tech (supposidly more aggressive) Just doesnt cut it for me. My Slim and SA both shave amazingly well, though the NEW can still get closer at times.

I will be selling everything I own for DE except the NEW, SA, Slim, and a Fatboy I have to get replated. Then use the money to plate the Fatboy, buy some Feather and KAI blades for my Artist Club straight, and if there is any left, get more Stirling Soaps :)

I too have had issues with getting good, irritation free shaves with TTO / safety bar razors. Aristocrat, Super Speed, Fat Boy, Slim. The only one that I've had any real success with has been the Fat Boy, but I don't like the shorter handle. It seems that either my face or my brain prefers the 3 piece design. I've also starting to think I like open comb razors better, but I'm still in the "working it out" stage as far as that goes.

Like I said, it may be in my mind, but right now I prefer 3 piece over TTO. But I LOVE some of the TTO designs....so so pretty.

Exactly where I am at right now. I don't have the experience with as many razors as Jeff but the same results.

Have you tried one of the few TTO open comb models yet, such as the Sheraton, for comparison?
