DE Razor Case for Travel

I travel quite a bit, but check my luggage, and was looking for a decent quality leather razor case that would fit either a EJ89 or other vintage DE razors (up to and including the long handled Gillettes). I don't want to spend $75+, but $50 or less would be awesome!

Thanks for being a wealth of knowledge!

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, I know, but if you decide to go just cheap and convenient, I put the razor head in the small size Altoids mints tin, sometimes leaving the blade in, the whole thing wrapped in a bit of cellophane or a tissue. Fits perfectly. And the handle can go anywhere. Very space-economical.

By the way, last time I checked (no pun intended), official policy was you can bring a DE on the plane, but not DE blades, so that's another problem to solve.

Hello!
WCS has two that I looked at --both under $23.
1. Merkur DE Travel case $16 http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Merkur-Double-Edge-Razor-Travel-Case_p_517.html
2. West Coast Shaving Badger & Blade Leather Safety Razor Case, Brown $23 http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Wes...e-Leather-Safety-Razor-Case-Brown_p_1284.html

Either will fit (according to the folks at WCS) my long-handled Merkur 23c (aka #180). There are also a couple of slightly more expensive cases there in the Travel section.

Cheers!

I use the Muhle version of your razor in my travel kit. I also use an Altoids type container.

Here is my Kit:

Muhle Razor with Feather blades.

Rooney 1-1 Silvertip brush.

I now use an Arko and Palmolive shave stick.

Artes--Thanks for the photo of your homemade razor carrying case. I was wondering how someone would keep from having their precious razor beat up, and now I see. I could also get a piece of foam and cut to fit.

Just one question before someone else beats me to it: What is the holy medicine bottle used for?

Medicine bottle is a clever idea for a brush. You want it to be able to dry somewhat.

Exactly correct!

When I set up in the hotel bathroom I use the medicine bottle (brush container) to hold my assembled razor and toothbrush.

Initially I used a tub of Cella (see pic), but now I am using shaving sticks which take up less room and are very effective. I carry a stick of Arko and Palmolive (for variety) each in their own medicine containers also with holes drilled.

The small opaque bottle contains my home-compounded after shave.

The small bronze blade case was my father's. I enjoy bringing something of his along on my travels.

My general approach was not to compromise on the quality of my equipment and to ensure that my equipment was packed to protect it.

that's a great idea! Thanks for the inspiration...

Anyone ever use little bags of dessicant that come in boxes of shoes to keep things a little more dry while traveling?

If you don't use a 3 piece razor for travel, this has worked well for me, it allows the blade to be left in the razor. I'm not taking credit for the idea, I found that somewhere in my readings here at B&B. Film canister with a hole and a slit for the handle.
