DE blade pack homemade wooden dispenser

Alright, based on my previous thread, I have decided to use the feather blade pack (2.125"x1.125") as the basis for the dimensions of the stacker "bays", I've added an extra 1/4" to be on the safe side, so it should work with most packs, I hope :)

seeing as how my original design fell on it's face once I rendered it in 3D, I have redesigned it and am sufficiently happy with the new look, but I would greatly appreciate your guy's thought's on it.

the thicker material is 3/4" red oak, and the front panels that slide into the grooves will be 1/8" glass, I left a 1/2" opening on the bottom to facilitate removal of the new pack when needed.

please note that the top will actually fit flush on the top, my 3D program (sketchup) was making things goofy when it was attached, so i raised it for cosmetic purposes, it will be hinged on one end, and open either left or right, I haven't decided yet.

good or bad, let me know your thought's

thanks
hutchster

This is nice. Good practical idea for having the blades all in one place at arms reach. Have you told your wife? I have my blades stored in the bottom of the shaving stuff box so that my wife doesn't count them.

Ok, I managed to build the core assembly so far, I still have to make the top and bottom and get some glass cut and stain it, but I think the hard part is over :)

The second pic makes the routered 1/8" grooves look off center but in reality they are very close, within a 1/64" I'd say.

I must have really had my head down while working as I didn't notice how cold I was getting until I got into the house, outside temp is -15 celsius (5 Fahrenheit for you southern brothers from other mothers :p), granted the garage was a balmy 0 C (32 F)

One of these days I have to hook up a heater in there

Anyways, here's the pic's so far

Looks great so far. Are you going to do anything to make the bottom blade slide forward a bit to make it easier to take out?

Same idea, but less elaborate than this

Good point, I just played around with some blade packs and you are right, it is a pain to snag the next pack, hmmm time to brainstorm

Well, I've got a good idea for the next one I build, unfortunately it's too late for this one, but I figure on making the bottom slope 45 degrees and have the bottom plate extend out the length of a blade pack plus a bit more, that way 1 pack is sitting ready and it also tells you what the rest are in that stack.

huzzah, it may be a lot smaller than I had planned, and it may only hold 9 packs, but my final...er demo model is complete :001_unsur

Any joe schmoe can cut some wood, it takes a true craftsman to turn 4 feet of nice red oak into something 3"X3"X7"

I solved the retrieval issue by angling the bottom 30 degrees, and I will install a small stopper at the end of the bottom plate to stop the dispensed pack from falling off and the container emptying

I will also get the glass cut so that there is a 1/2" gap at the top so that I can feed the packs in one at a time, and a 1/2" gap at the bottom so the packs will flow out.
