Try a soak in hot water, followed by a shot of scrubbing bubbles. An old toothbrush and a wooden toothpick are also useful tools. After that you'll be able to see what kind of shape the plating is in. In extreme cases a razor can be re-plated, but usually that isn't needed or worthwhile.
