Dang Nice Cart.....

No need to adjust your screen. You read it right. Nah, seriously though. I have nothing against a cartridge blade. Other than the price. I do find the Fusion ugly and pointless and think the Quattro is crappo. That just pulls.

BUT....my post is not about those.

I got a Trac handle by Franklin Toiletries off da bay. Bought some blades at helmart. Personna brand. 10 for less than $4. They were a 1/4 of the price of the Gillette Trac blades. I think it was Gillette brand....anyway. The only other brand that would fit.

The handle is nice and heavy. And gosh! I got a helluva shave from this thing. .

I just bought a 1914 Ever-Ready and the seller threw in a gold Old Spice Trac II handle in as a bonus. Heavy, not bad looking beast.

I will try to get a pic.

It is Franklin Toiletries company, a product line they had called, Barbershop. Interesting what I'm finding.

I wish the Personna carts had the vented blade design of the actual Trac II carts. Personna is preferable in terms of price and the lack of lube strip, and they shave well too. But with no venting between the blades, I find they clog easily, which the Gillettes avoid.

Agreed. That really is their only failing though, and I found it liveable (rinse/repeat). The Twin II's are what I used for 3-4 weeks while learning to make a decent lather and waiting for a DE (used a Bump Fighter handle, original plan was a nice Merkur Trac II handle, but I got lured by the DE).

Yesterday I went to a hardware/cutlery store to buy some ELIOS blades, and the man behind the counter (maybe in his 60s) asked me if I used DE blades to everyday. I said: it may sound strange, but yes (considering I must be less that half is age ).
He then showed me a GII (aka TracII) handle he had in store (it was in a white plastic box with no blades, probably not original) and that he had been using the GII for almost 40 years. He then said that DEs were OK, but it's pretty easy to cut yourself with one, and that he had already tried newer razors (with pivoting heads and the like), and that he just didn't like them.
So I guess it stood the test of time. I have a GII handle but haven't tried it yet, I still have to get some carts, preferably without lubricating strip .
