Damn Comfortable Shave

Phoenixkh

I shaved a fortune
Sunday. A decent shave other than a nip on my upper lip. Ouch.

Perhaps this soap is not as protective as some? Perhaps it was user error? IDK.

Flipped Willy's (2) blade. The Tube in the shower and as a preshave.

This brush, a huge Mozingo HD knot in a Rudy Vey Polo 12, is beyond huge. It's also a very good brush.

Thank God for my handy, extra large, styptic pencil!

Happy shaves,

Jim
I got this soap because a well respected member here loves it.... I've only used it a couple times but I can't say it's among my favorite unscented soaps, if you catch my drift. <eg>

Monday. A nice shave.

Sailor settings of #3 and the fully closed Zero Dot did the trick this morning.

Willy's (3), flipped. The Tube.

This is a nice soft brush (a D01 3 band) albeit rather a bit too small for my tastes.

Its cousin, the Purple which is the same size knot in the D01 2 band seems larger.

Both are flattops.

Happy shaves,

I got a terrific shave on Tuesday.

If you told me this was my best ever Sailor shave I'd have trouble arguing with you. Sailor settings were #4 throughout with the exception of the Zero Dot setting for ATG work on my upper lip.

Willy's (5), flipped. Tube as usual.

Lovely brush in all respects. I knew before I ordered it I would love this 24 mm Mozingo knot and that it would seem large to me albeit not huge.

Happy shaves to you,

Jim

Tuesday's shave was easy (and good).

The Progress platform is very hard to beat. This morning my settings on the Opgress worked well for me.
  1. Half a turn open. That's a lot open according to my experience with the platform, but it's a plenty smooth and easy to use setting.
  2. Fully closed for shaving ATG on my upper lip.
New blade, a Wizamet SI.

Great brush this LE Semogue three band. I like it very much. It is certainly my favorite three band.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Wednesday. Another good shave.

I have a very comprehensive collection of the commonly used adjustables excluding the Ambassador which I'm not interested in.

The Progress platform adjustables are very hard to beat. This Opgress is one terrific shaver. Today's one setting was half a turn open. I forgot to use the fully closed setting to shave ATG on my upper lip, but still got a very nice shave.

Significant signs of insanity.

At least according to Big Nurse, this is another.

Still, with all the adjustables I already own including several which I know are the bee's knees for me, I have just ordered another adjustable. My guess is it will be much like the Denali adjustable which I like but don't use much. Everyone seems to love their new Oliblade adjustable so I'm most jumping on a bandwagon. I certainly do not need another razor much less another adjustable...

Of course, I ordered the stand, too.

Wizamet SI (2), flipped. Tube.

This is a huge three band silvertip knot. It's gotta be one of my very favorite three bands. I like this version of the Chubby handle even better than the Simpson Chubby handles.

Happy shaves,

Jim

My shaves on Thursday and Friday were good.

Yesterday I used my wonderful Ivory Mozingo. It might be my favorite brush. Today's choice was the Purple D01 which I like well enough but don't love love love.

Opgress settings of half a rotation and fully closed were employed.

I used the Tube and a Wizamet SI (3&4) blade, flipped.

Good shaves.

Happy shaves to you,

Sunday's shave was good. Tried a new-to-me blade for the first time.

8-11-24.Opgress.Canada.Mozingo.640..jpeg

Pete at Hendrix Classics sent me a tuck of new-to-me blades. The first shave impressions were good. Smooth. Sharp. No glue or wax to remove. Whether Hendrix sells these blades is a question not answered by the website, but why wouldn't they. The blades are from India and very much remind me of Willy's, Wizamet, and Polsilver blades, particularly Willy's.

Settings: 4 and fully closed.

The Tube.

Happy shaves to you,

Jim

Tuesday. First shave with my new Oliworks adjustable.

8-13-24.Oliworks.Mike's.Barrel.640..jpeg

Having read up on the experiences of others with this adjustable, including Cal @Cal, I decided to begin with setting #4 which I used throughout the shave other than ATG on my upper lip where I used a much lower setting, probably #1.

As many have noted, the dot is very hard to see (without my glasses), so I'm not 100% sure of the low setting I used.

In any case, the shave was pretty effective, and plenty smooth. I will get it dialed in soon enough, but it's already impressed me.

Denali.New.Strip.640.png

Looking at the Oliworks razor side by side against ⇡my Denali⇡, they are very similar looking adjustables. Perhaps I'll compare their shaves, but not right away. Both are certainly smooth and relatively mild feeling. Both have given me good shaves.

Vi-John, Chrome Platinum blades.640..png

Vi-John (3), flipped. Very nice blade.

The Tube.

One shave does not a review make, but it's a start.

Happy shaves,

Jim

those Vi-JOHN blades are marketed like no other double edge blade on the market.. The companies models look like washed up 1980's actors like Eric Estrada etc. they use fancy terms like Cyro-tech ,super sputtered platinum, master stroke, triple coated,.. Chan I'm glad you like these blades, I may gives these another try very soon

It would be a stretch to say I like these blades. After all, I've had only four shaves with only one Vi-John blade. It is possible I'll hate the second blade I pull out of the one tuck I own of this brand.

I notice several different blades, at least two, under the Vi-John brand, and have no idea how they differ. Also, the yellow tuck I have might be different from the red tuck, but I don't know that it is.

Pete at Hendrix Classics sent me blades I'd ordered plus two sample tucks. He also sent me a hand written note commenting on all three blades saying he liked the Vi-John blades better than the other two (which he also liked). Like most everyone, I suspect, I get loads of sample tucks most of which I never open. It was Pete's note and comments which motivated me to give the Vi-John yellows a spin.

All I really know is I like the one blade I've tried. I'm just documenting my experience.

Happy shaves,

Jim
