Can someone tell me the difference between a Gem Damaskeene and a 1912? Is there a difference?

Let me add to the original question.
I've seen Gem Damaskeene's referred to here. One of my 1912s says "Use only Gem Damaskeene blades" on the inside. The lid is slightly curved instead of flat (very slightly). Is this the model that people mean when they refer to a "Damaskeene" razor?
It seems to shave about the same as my other 1912s. Any difference would be very subtle.
