The Da Vinci 291 is my first badger brush. This brush has the same loft as the 290, but the handle has a more traditional ivory/creme colored style.
I had planned to use it for both face and bowl lathering and my concern was to beat up the chromed band on the 290 when lathering in a mug or bowl.
I can say the quality is absolutely outstanding. I have six other brushes and this is the first that lost no hair during the first three uses.
My first two face lathering attempts were just figuring out the dynamics of a badger brush and the 291 in particular.
It holds a tremendous amount of water compared to boar and horse brushes so I have to get rid of the excess water before loading it with soap.
On my third try I was awarded with luxurious lather and a great shave. The tips are very soft though and nothing like I had in my stable before.
I really value that after getting brush burn from a couple of my existing ones.
Despite of the tall loft the brush has stiffness where it is needed. Although I can create good lather with any brush since I started using a buffing
technique (gently slapping back and forth) after the initial circular scrubbing motion. I find this way I can make good face lather with any brush
regardless of stiffness.
