What's new

D.R. Harris Windsor

Today I had an opportunity to speak to someone at D.R. Harris regarding the pending Windsor soap. Unfortunately there is no definite date of release as yet, but hopefully not too long now. My main reason for contacting them was to establish the formulation of the new soap. Was it going to be the well proven and loved tallow formula we know already, or was it going to be a vegetable soap? I am very pleased to say that the new Windsor soap is definitely going to be tallow based. They were quite positive that their tallow soaps receive a lot of praise, and in no way were they going to go down any other route! I believe we can expect another winner from Harris when it finally arrives, and with a scent I simply adore.

That's fantastic news, David, thanks for sharing!

Has anyone tried the Windsor cologne? What's it like?

Yes, I have that as well as the cream. I love it but the Harris EdTs don't exactly have great longevity. Four to five hours if you're lucky. To me it's a milder, less peppery version of Pen's BB. I prefer that but the Pen's BB lasts much longer on me.

Thank you David! Fantastic news. My Harris soaps had been feeling unloved until I recently rediscovered them in the back of a cabinet. They are really terrific performers and very easy to lather.

Love the Arlington and Lavender soaps, but after smelling the Windsor towelettes, the soap is no longer at the top of my want list.

Brian, can you characterize the Arlington and the Windsor? Have never smelled either (asked for a towelette but hasn't arrived yet), and wondering what the scents are like. Particularly interested in that you have obviously sniffed both and have a definite preference. (And the lavender is nice, isn't it?!)

For points of reference, I have D.R. Harris sandalwood aftershave, Calani dubai soap, the TOBS sandalwood range, CK Obsession and some other edts. Pens I don't have nor have I smelled it.

Let me say up front that I'm not a frag guy, so those who are and know what they're talking about, feel free to set me straight. I do read the frag threads and if I'm in a department store try to sample some that I read about here. So far I really do not like most popular fragrances. To me, it seems Harris went for a more modern scent with Windsor. I think Windsor would be right at home on the counter with Cool Water, GIT, and some others. I will say that my wife really liked the Windsor scent on me after I applied the towelette, but I got tired of it rather quickly. I'm sure the scent of the soap will be more subdued than the edt and maybe down the road I'll try the soap. I'm just not as anxious as I was.

Thanks,Brian. I think I understand that you feel it is a "department store" scent, and that is meaningful to me. I prefer a scent that is unique and different enough to stand out from the rest.

Now half as wise
This is good news, indeed.

While you are asking them about Rose, ask about Sandalwood as well.
