D & R and Stokkebye dual use tobacco

I am using the Daughters and Ryan and Stokkebye dual use tobaccos as cigs. I do not inhale but you sure can. They are golden in color and more dry than the pipe only lines. Easy to tell the difference. Roll them up by hand and no filter as it dulls the taste which is most of the reason to be smoking them for me. Nicotine is secondary.

Stokkebye has the designations of countries or cities as the clue for the ryo lines. London, Danish, Turkish, Norwegian, Amsterdam, Stockholm. Norwegian and Amsterdam are leading the pack right now.

D & R is gonna be Rowland and Ryback leading the way. The Ramback/Turkish lines are a bit too light for me with the Turkish forward taste. Have not tried their Perique lines but will in time.

Lots of people smoke these lines in pipes but the flavors tend to be more basic than some pipe tobaccos, and they can smoke a bit hot I guess. If you want less toppings or propylene glycol then these can be good.

I tried a pouch of Bugler rolling tobacco from the local drug store and was not liking it much. They may have changed the blend as they used to claim it had Turkish tobacco in it. Whatever it was, it was inferior to the D & R and Stokkebye stuff. I recall it being better many years back. Drum was nowhere to be seen in the drug store, but some bags of 'pipe' tobacco going for much less than the Bugler rolling tobacco. $8 for the Bugler at .65 of an ounce, and $15 or so for a pound of the 'pipe' tobacco. Light color to the tobacco and low price being the give away. Grocery stores had a few lines of cigarettes and nothing in loose tobacco or pipe tobacco.

With a great avatar comes great misidentification
D&R use high quality tobacco and although I don't RYO I could see using their tobacco as opposed to regular RYO baccy...I don't get down with extra chemicals in my tobacco. Enjoy!

One note on the Stokkebye, is that those tobaccos you list are the same for pipe and RYO, they have a different cut for the two. So when you buy the Amsterdam RYO it’s a shag cut and when you buy the Amsterdam pipe tobacco it’s a ribbon cut. Otherwise the same and delish either way.

When I smoked cigs, I used D & R a lot as it was my favorite RYO. Be sure to give their Perique a try. It tastes like the old Picayune cigarettes that were made in Louisiana.

^^ Will order some Perique for sure. Supposed to activate the nicotine receptors a lot. 5 Brothers made me feel like a jolt of electricity had hit me. I wonder if they use ammonia on that or what to make it so strong. I know Burleys are strong anyway.

On the Camels or other premade cigs being inferior, I hear you clearly. The taste of my roll ups is so much better. I think they use ammonia and or other chemicals on the manufactured cigs as well, freebasing the nicotine to hook you. I smoke whenever I feel like it now. I take a day off or several days and no withdrawal. No inhaling and non screwed with tobacco being the reason.

When I smoked Marlboro or Camel there were no days off period. Even when I was not inhaling I still had to have them each hour or two.

I love how the Facebook Experts always spout their knowledge when some says that they inhale their pipe smoke. It’s always “Pipe Tobacco was
NEVER meant to be inhaled”, or “Pipe Tobacco is different from other pipe tobacco and can’t be inhaled” etc.

They just need to let people enjoy their tobacco how they want to enjoy it. The fact that PS RYO and Pipe blends differ mainly in cut and maybe moisture shows you should never rely on internet experts.

They even have a blend called Picayune, which I imagine is a dead ringer for those.

Yes. I had a friend from Louisiana that brought them to me on occasion and the tobacco was purely Periqie - all black. They were strong, flavorful and quite unique. They stopped production years ago as far as I know but now you can RYO. Eventually I’ll probably buy some D & R to have in a pipe for an occasional treat.

Ya know, I'd be a lot keener to do a RYO now & again, but SWMBO would pitch a fit if she saw me with a cigarette -- pipes & cigars are OK, but cigarettes are definitely verboten!
