Yes, dachshunds have this special look they give you...btw, he is blind in the left eye, a condition he had when we got him. if you look careful at the puppy pics, you may see it. We took him with 6 month to an eye specialist vet, and $1000+ later, he told us nothing could be done to save this eye. He is fine with it since then.
We had another dachshund, Schnitzel (still miss her every day....), she had both her eyes removed due to some ongoing inflammation, and she did extremely well for some two and a half years, just do not move furniture or other stuff in a different spot...I loved this dog, she was a great one, extremely protective of the house and us, and a great hunter (she caught at least three rabbits, and several birds, one even when he was taunting her and flying over her head - too close!!!

It is amazing how much we get attached to these pups.
Our standard poodle has always been a fast runner. One day we took her to a poodle rescue event in downtown St. Petersburg FL. One of the dogs there was supposed to be fast. The dog was part Afghan and part poodle. The pack of dogs began running around this track. All of a sudden our dog, Lucy, passed the Afghan and ended up lapping him. The dog stopped running; he just gave up. Two weeks later Lucy ran down the stairs and jumped the last four stairs. She started limping.
After two days we took her to a vet who referred us to a specialist. The specialist wanted to do surgery but said the surgery most likely would impede her and we would have to confine her so she wouldn't run and jump for two months. Plus, he was not sure the surgery would be successful. We took her to another vet and said he would try physical therapy and supplements first. Lucy went through three months of physical therapy starting off three times a week and then once a week. The therapist also recommended a joint supplement made by Nutramax. More than $2,000 later she was back to normal.
She is now 12 years old and still acts like a pup. We ended up giving her the joint meds every day and that seemed to help.

The last little boy decided that I was HIS human. He just decided to bond with me. Forever my shadow. My wife said that he would make her life MISERABLE when I wasn't home. Seems he would sit at the front door and HOWL until I got home!
I asked her if she wasn't exaggerating just a little. The next time I was out to my weekly bible study she decided to tape record him with my mini cassette recorder I used in nursing school... She had not exaggerated! Buster Von Brat cried for 3 HOURS!
LOL, if ONLY my human loved ones missed me that much! But, then again, why would I need a dog?

A few years back, our Woofie somehow managed to threw his back out, just a day before we went overseas on vacation. We always get an in-house sitter, so the ten days we were gone he was confined to a small cage and had to be carried out to do his business. When we came back, he was just a little better, but far away from what he should be. So, we took him to our Chinese doctor, she was giving us acupuncture for years, so we asked if she would do the same to him. Yes, she said, I have done many dogs and also horses in the past. The first time we carried him in and he walked out after his treatment on his own - amazing results!! One more treatment and he was himself again.

Our standard poodle loves to go for a car ride. Whenever I get my keys from the kitchen drawer she heads for the garage!
We have a standard poodle service dog. When I grab the car key, he runs to the closet, opens the door and gets the wife’s purse out.
Bwaaa ha ha. 'good dog', says mom, 'let's go shopping!'
It has always amazed me how smart and caring these dogs are.
A few years ago my wife was very sick and the prognosis was not good. She was bed-ridden for over two weeks. Lucy stayed with her the entire day and only would go outside to relieve herself. I had to bring her food bowl to the bedroom. Since then, Lucy is always attached to my wife.
It is funny how much she likes riding in the car. A few days ago I did a Costco run and had some paper goods on the back seat. Since I left the door open she hopped in and I ended giving her a short ride.
Like you, our little girl has picked me as her human from the first time we saw her. At the breeder, there were 3 females we could choose from, they all came out at the same time and this little one literally beelined for me and was like velcro. Nowadays, she listens to me, the wife not so much (can be taken as the pup listens to me and not the wife or the pup listens to me but the wife doesn’t listen to me much. Either one is correct LOL)

Saturday before Easter at a buddy’s store. Still posting her ears, adult teeth are still coming in. She is 5 1/2 months old now, 50 pounds.
