What's new

Cut my lip for the first time ever last night. I thought I'd bleed to death!

And I did it with a Muhle R89 and a Derby blade, no less. I'd have thought it impossible to cut myself with that combination even if I turned the razor sideways and literally sawed at my face. It must've bled for a half hour.

Any of you guys ever get unexpectedly bitten by a proven mild razor/blade combo? It just goes to show you ALWAYS have to be alert when shaving. It was late and I was tired - my mind was clearly somewhere else.

 It happens, as Forrest Gump once said! Sorry you got bit, but at least there is proof positive that Derby blades WILL cut SOMEthing!

Not like that, but I did cut my cheek twice spinning the razor around to the other side when one side filled up with lather. The corner of the blade glanced my face and left me with a nice cut that fortunately healed quickly.

By coincidence I too had my first cut in ages yesterday. Just a tiny cut on my nostril, getting a bit careless with a fresh Feather blade in a Feather AS-D1 razor.
Strangely, the rest of the shave was nick-free without irritation (rare for me with a new Feather blade.)
My theory is that new Feather blades are like a Gurkha's kukri - once drawn they must taste blood before being put away.

Ha! Like me, you cut yourself with a notoriously mild razor. Unlike me, though, you were using a "bloodthirsty" blade, as you put it.

Worst cut I ever had was with a DE but I can't recall the blade I was using. I took a nice divot out of my bottom lip that took hours to stop bleeding. For some strange reason I didn't get a whole lot of kisses from the girl friend that day.

Eek, hopefully, that was a first and last. I almost did the same last night. I was in a rush shaving and was really throwing the razor around my mustache area. I slowed down before I did any damage

I got my bottom lip a week or two back. Like you say, just got a little careless. Fortunately I caught myself and didn't cut too deep and didn't bleed bad.

I do say, when the blade is near the skin, pay attention.
