Custom Semogue?

I absolutely love my SOC pair, the two-band and boar in cherry. These brushes have retired all of my other brushes. They are great for bowl lathering in particular, and both super soft. I think the boar might actually be softer than the badger in this instance as my boar is showing much 3 and 4 way splitting in the tips.

I do feel, however, that the boar, while not being floppy, does splay out a bit too much on my face when lathering. So my question is this: Does Semogue offer custom brushes like other small manufacturers? Vie-Long comes to mind in this regard. I'd love the SOC boar hair a few millimeters shorter in loft.

Another option would be to have the knot removed and set into a custom handle. Restorers, could the metal cup the knot sits in be trimmed to be sunk deeper into a handle?

Thanks for reading.

Hope you're doing well sir! I don't think they do customs, at least I haven't seen any around here outside the IB limited edition. There may be another Semo that has a shorter loft but I'm not positive. Might check gifts and care, they seem to have a lot of semogue brushes. I've never bought from them tho so I don't know much about them.

On the other hand you have the option of modifying the brush. I haven't looked for a thread about removing a knot on one of those brushes but there may be one out there. I also have no idea what that metal ring really does. I'm not very helpful apparently

BUT, there is one more thing you could try. That's a thread by GDcarrington and is a bit of an impressive feat if you ask me. The key is keeping that knot tight and in one piece. Then cutting a nice, clean, level surface so you can later epoxy it back in and not lose too many hairs. Once you've cut it out you're going to need to get the rest of the knot out and clean out the knot bed for transplant. Not hard to do with a drill and maybe a Dremel(I prefer the Dremel).

The one thing that's key is the brush will likely have a bit of change of character if you shorten the loft. Hope that's helpful. I can honestly say that I'm still a bit of a noob in the restore scene but I've done a bit of lurking. You might also consider asking a mod to have this thread moved to the restore forum(or starting a new thread) as you'll likely get more, and much better, responses.
Cheers
