Custom Brush/Pipe?

So this thread gave me a strange idea. Could you make a pipe/brush combination?

My thoughts are that you carve out your custom pipe but leave the end block big enough that the bottom side can hold a hole for a knot. Seems to me like a great way to combine both hobbies.

Great idea, or craziness on my part?

Id test it !

but i will say this,... Jason sent me a Jason original brush, which means it smells like tobacco (cause it came in a box full of tobacco), and it made the brush that much more enjoyable,... was a said day when it began smelling like Arlington,.. i keep it with the tobaccos now so it holds the scent better

However, I can see a block being carefully carved to allow the scrap to be used to make a brush handle, not unlike some of Blade Boy's tampers.

I have to say I'm surprised no one liked the idea. Too bad I don't have any pipe making experience or I'd probably give it a shot.

I'm just trying to picture a shape that would have the wood narrow enough to lather/load in a bowl, and comfortable to hold for both uses, and I'm drawing a blank.

I was thinking something like this, with an indent for your fingers. It would probably be a relatively small knot (or a huge bowl), and best used for face lathering.

i see a heat, adhesive problem with that design,.. but then im not sure how hot the bottom of the bowl gets

either that or someone should stop feeding that duck bread,... i think its making his tummy sick

Good point, the highest grade epoxy I could find has a difference in temperature with the inside of a pipe bowl of several hundred degrees. Of course how much of this transfers out would be based on the thickness of the briar and the coolness of the particular smoke.

I also have a new found respect for those that can draw with Microsoft Paint.

Admittedly so, but it does look great, see here.
Very cool.

I have a pipe dream of getting some wood working tools and trying my hand at making a pipe, among other things. I thought of making a briar handle shaving brush, good to see they're already out there.

Cut, paste, flip, rotate, and take advantage of the shapes that Paint will make for you.

Many things can be assembled based off of the circle/ellipse and square/rectangle

Think Erector Set, not Legos.

I've wondered about briar scales for a straight razor...Hey!, I know, ..a combination pipe, brush and str8 razor multi-tool kinda thing!

I don't think the combo would work, or be practical. But where my mind went was turning a handle out of briar, but instead of putting a knot in it, drill the side and put a stem in it. Then you have a pipe shaped like a brush handle. While you're at it turn two handles, and knot one of them. Then you'll have a matching pipe/brush set!

That seems like a more logical idea now that I've slept. A straight with matching scales would definitely round out the set.
