Cussons Imperial Leather Shaving Stick

Today I won an eBay auction for a vintage Cussons Imperial Leather aftershave set. I'm the guy who always loses every auction, so I'm pretty psyched about this. The set comes with bottles of aftershave and brilliantine, but the real score was an Imperial Leather shaving stick.

I've tried the Australian version of Imperial Leather aftershave that's still in production, but I don't have any idea what this vintage stuff is like. Anybody know?

I've got a Cusson's Imperial Leather soap puck, made in England, that had no UPC code so it's probably from the late 70's. It's a very hard milled soap that seems to be tallow based. It took more water than usual to lather. The lather is very thick and slick, but not meringue-like. It was kind of like MWF, but easier to lather. Good shave.

Unfortunately most of the scent was gone, but I got faint whiffs of lemon, moss, patchouli and soapy lavender.

Well done! You certainly stole a march on me with that one, I never even saw it.

Excelsior!

Nice score. Congrats!

Don't have any idea what it smells like, but do let us know how you like the soap. Looking forward to your report! :thumbup1:

I'm pretty excited about trying this out whenever it gets here. What is it about this stuff that isn't made any more that calls out to us?

I'm thinking our Mr. Nid is a shave stick man just when he has to travel to Japan...We're talking old school cool, Imperial Leather in the land of the Feather.

I reach the plan.

That definitely had an effect on my buy. Actually that's why I grabbed the Williams stick on the BST too. I'll post something about that later today!

oh, man, am I ever off my game or what????

congratulations to both of you - yes, toeknee, you are obliged under the by-laws of B&B to use that thing.

hunh... something else to chase - thanks, guys!

I have been lucky to have won a Vintage Imperial Leather shaving cream, a Imperial Leather after shave, and two Imperial Leather shaving stick's :w00t:.

Nice!

I don't think they make the stick anymore, if they do, I never saw it anywhere. I know they still make some Talc, regular bar of soap, the AS (Original and Vertigo) and that's pretty much it...

That's a beautiful set. In that condition I could never bring myself to use any of it. The box and bottles are works of art in themselves. Smell the stuff every once in a while and then leave it alone to look pretty, IMHO. I think early 60's for this stuff. be worth a fortune one day.
