Current Production Gillette Platinum

Gentlemen,

I wouldn't call it angst on my part, but I was a little disappointed to hear of the (alleged) demise of Super Iridiums and I'm glad I at least stocked up recently with a year's worth. Meanwhile, I search for suitable replacements.

Any fresh impressions on the current production Gillette Platinum? I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who may also use Super Iridiums, Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows, Bleue Extras, or Swedes but all input is appreciated. The last review I found on the Plats was from late 2009.

As I mentioned in another thread earlier today, the Russian Gillette Platinums are great blades. Though the ones I buy are packaged a bit differently - the boxes are all white (no border) with a lighter shade of blue lettering.

My experience with them: smooth, irritation-free DFS shaves in two passes, in all my razors, with all my creams and soaps. The price is right, so why not pick up a few packs and try 'em out?

Thanks, Patrik, I'll probably do just that.

Where do you buy them?

I have never used a "Swede", but I bought a few paks of the Russian Gillette Platinums, just like your ebay link above, from dridiot a few months ago.
I didn't think they were anything too special.
I prefer the Yellows.
I still have at least one un-opened pak.
If you'd like it, send me a PM and I'll drop it in the mail to you.

Bill,

Have you tried the Blue Russian Super Platinums? I find them to be just a bit smoother than the Black Indian Super Platinum blades. If you would like to try a few I can send some your way.

Gentlemen, thanks for your kind offers!! I'll contact you soon. :thumbup1:

Scott, I have a fresh supply of Yellows on the way (which I've enjoyed before) so I'm anxious to compare them to my Iridiums, Bleues and Swedes. Plus your Platinums, perhaps!.

Chris, I didn't see you post impressions about the Black Indian Super Plats in your thread. So you think the Blues are a little smoother? And have you or anybody else confirmed (as best we can in our insulated world) the Blues and Black come from the same factory, just packaged for different markets?

The blues come from Russia...the blacks from India.

I do believe that the blue and black Super Platinum blades come from different factories. The blues have the same printing as all St. Petersberg made Gillettes have. The Indian black blades have different printing on the blade and no quality control mark, and especially no Russian Glue :tongue_sm.

Both are fine blades, but for me the Blues win by a small margin. I got seven great shaves from a single blade. That is a record for me, I can usually only get two due to the wire like nature of my stubble.

The only other blades that lasted that long for me were Timor and Souplex blades.

Chris, this is good to hear as I regularly get 6-8 shaves with my Iridiums. Only Swedes and Bleue Extras are on par for me.
