Curious about the Lectric Shave (

I know it's listed as "Pre-Shave" but the thing is: I was at the local mall yesterday and I saw this bottle.
I have vague memories from my childhood about some shaving product and a small tune that said "De Mennen!" (By Mennen) and I was pretty sure this was that product... then I saw it said "Pre-Shave"

I picked up an Old Spice Aftershave that was right besides it and saw the ingredients were almost the same. I liked the scent of the Mennen product but... would it work as an aftershave? Has anyone any experience with the product? I ask because I liked the scent a lot! Also, finding aftershaves in my country is (believe or not) hard. All you see here is either Nivea or Gillette. This is the only store where I've been able to find Aqua Velva, Old Spice and Brut (Sometimes they bring something different like Adidas, but I'm more fond of the classic :001_tt1:).

The Product says in the label it "can make your whiskers stand stiff" and well, not sure how that would work after a shave.
The bottle says also:

  • Contains soothing tea extracts
  • Stands whiskers stiff
  • Nourishes your skin

2/3 points are what I would look in an aftershave (soothing and norishment of the skin) so, it seems it would do... but I don't want to do something crazy either hahaha.

Of course, I can always buy it, try it and let you know later :001_tt2: but If I can minimize the risks of doing something dumb, then I will :wink2:

Thanx in advance for your input!

Very slick stuff- don't think it would work well as an aftershave- never thought about it as a pre-shave for our way of doing things- would likely work pretty well, tho. It sure did the trick back in my electric days!

Oh, that's too bad.
I thought about buying it as a pre-shave anyways but I read at Amazon.com the smell is quite strong and lingers even after the shave... and you know, part of "The way of the wetshaver" tells us to use an aftershave haha :D

I thought it was a preshave for electric razors? I inherited a bottle of it after my grandfather passed away, never liked the stuff.

It is, that's what I thought it was a crazy thing to do haha.
I think I'll pass this time and get the Adidas Aftershave. It says the it has a "Woody, ambery fragrance" and that is quite appealing.

Thanx for your input :)

Hey, give it a shot. Maybe you'll be onto something. It can't be bad for your skin, I think it's mostly alcohol to dry off your skin and beard before shaving.

Ah! damn you... off to the shop! (Yeah, I have a VERY fragile force of will :biggrin1:)
Hahaha

I won't be able to use it till thursday (I shaved today and my beard takes a while to grow) but I will let you guys know how it works.

Cool!
I bought it yesterday following craig87c advise "Give it a shot!" :D haha

When I arrived home, I sprinkled some drops in my left hand and then I rubbed my 2 hands. The smell is great, but it doesn't seem to last long (that might change if I use more than 4 drops)
Also, the skin felt a little different (a little moist/oily I guess?) but that too didn't last long. It was a nice feeling but I'm glad it doesn't stick for too long. I like my face skin to feel flexible but not greasy (if that makes sense) and the feeling made me think it can be good for the skin.
All in all, I think it will be a nice experience and I'm looking forward to use it tomorrow.

I'm glad I found someone else who uses it as Aftershave :D that means I'm not crazy... or that I'm not the only one crazy.

Well, I had my shave today... not the best, the blade was not in the best shape. I think I left it unused for too long or maybe my skin was still a little sensitive 'cause I shaved tuesday. I had a couple of nicks and points of blood. Felt like a newbie. After that, I applied the alum and brushed my teeth... I usually leave the alum for 30 secs, not 5 mins. I didn't like much how it felt and when I washed away the alum with water, my hands got al wrinkled. Also, I found out that the guy who left the company a few weeks ago, inherited me a project that was supposed to be almost finished and it's maybe 3/4 away from being finished.

Enough wit the rant

The "aftershave":
After I rinsed my face with water, I grabed my towel and dried my face. Then used the Lectric Shave Lectric Shave Lotion. I didn't use a couple of drops. I was generous, to be honest. I rubed my hands and then started to massage my face. The alcohol scent was the first thing I felt! Quite strong, I felt kinda disappointed because the smell of alcohol overwhelmed the other odors.

It didn't last long. Soon, the alcohol evaporated and left the rest of the ingredients alone. I could now feel the real scent of the product. It's very subtle, unlike regular Aftershaves, this one is quite subtle and does not linger for too long. from 7:15 to 8:30 (time that took me to get to the office) I could smell the Lectric scent. As I said, it was subtle but it was there from time to time and it was nice. By 10:00 am, I could barelly smell it :(

The consistency. Hotreds said it: it's very slick. I mean, when you apply it to your hands and then to your face, the liquid looks like any aftershave. It doesn't seem to have a high viscosity. When you rub your hands and face and let the alcohol evaporate, that's another story. My hands felt oily and (unlike when I used only a couple of drops in my palms) the feeling seemed to be long lasting. Is not as if you applied baby's oil in your hands, but it does build a film of oil (makes sense since it's a preshave) And it was more obvious when I opened the faucet and tried to wash my hands. Water slipped away from my palms just as if I had oil on them. I had to use soap to do the job.

On my hands, it was a little annoying. In my face, it felt good actually. Skin felt smooth and it wasn't shiny or anything. My face was happy and the alcohol wasn't that terrible with the small nicks.

Bottom line:
It might leave an oily feeling after you apply it and the smell of alcohol might be too strong, but I think it does the job. I will keep it in my rotation and even try it as a preshave product (since that's what it's made for haha) instead of the noxzema cream and see how it works.

Hahaha well, I was only 6 years old when that add came out so maybe I saw another... but yeah! That's the AS I was looking for :) too bad I could not find it here.
"By Mennen" haha, nostalgia attack!

Sorry you can't find it :( I am a fan of it myself. I know it's hard to get AS shipped here, so I can't imagine it's any easier in Honduras.
