What's new

Curious about how often you use an SE.

I know some people straight shave everyday, or the majority of days, falling back on something else if they're in a rush etc.

So I was wondering, do you guys shave with a SE daily (obviously with exceptions), or is it your "weekend shave" where, like a straight, you spend more time and pay more attention?

I use SE every shave. It varies between a Valet AutoStrop, Gem Micromatic Open Comb, & an injector. I'd love to pick up a Cobra but that will have to wait for the time being.

I have been deliberately trying to rotate razors so SE is now a once or twice a week at best shave

I started the Single Edge Sunday thread to make sure that I used a SE razor AT LEAST once a week.

In a way I am not very pleased to have all of these razors that I now MUST use..... drats... you guys are killing me

Is it hard to switch back and forth only one day a week or have you gotten it to be second nature?

I wonder if it's sort of one or the other. I could see if you don't use it often that just using it once in a while could be a little difficult. I guess the DE is second nature, but the SE just seems a bit more difficult. And the straights seem to be difficult to use, like you need to keep up your skill, unlike the DE which is pretty easy to pick up even for the first time.

As my signature suggests I just use SE's now.I have a bullet tip,OCMM,Damaskene OC,Schick Injector G
and my alltime fav COBRA----I sold all my DE's away and there was alot, but for me The SE's are wayyyyyyyyy better

I have been shaving so long that shaving with anything is pretty much an easy thing to do. Heck I could probably get a BBS shave with a sharp rock or a piece of broken glass.

I use a different razor every day. I may go 4 or more weeks before picking up the same razor again. Same goes for blades, brushes, soaps/creams and after shaves.

I just got too much "stuff" and hate to see it sitting around.

since getting back from my 3 month vacation I have been trying to come up with a few razors to sell on BST. So, I grab one, shave with it and LOVE IT..... so back in the drawer it goes. I came to the conclusion that they all are great so I might as well keep them all and enjoy them one at a time.

I have decided to NOT buy any more razors, blades, brushes, soaps or creams for a while. It's hard to do but going on a month now and I have purchased NOTHING. This is very unusual for me.

I know that I am going to be buying soaps, creams, after shaves, and colognes when my local shave shop has their 40% off after xmas sale... No way I will pass that one up... I won't be interested in any of their razors but the consumables are just too good of a deal to NOT get them

Money has been a little tight, and I had the bad AD's when I started so I acquired a very nice den (to me at least, and that's all that matters). So going off just what I have is not that bad, I just have to resist the deals on the BST, that took a little bit of time to do :/

It took me isolating myself in an RV for 3 months, traveling the small highways of this country with only a VERY limited selection of shaving products to break me of buying things. Seems to have worked as I have not bought anything since getting back home

This is all I had to choose from for 3 months.... Drove me batty at first but once I settled in I enjoyed what I had selected to take with me. It helped that I took a very LARGE blade selection (60 blades) and I did not try to stretch them.

SE use about 50-75%.
Ive been actively trying to do more DE. But the shave I had today with the ER 1914 was smooth as silk.....

I shave with an Ever-Ready Streamline 7 days a week,the only time I'll use anything else,it's my Ever-Ready '14

Lol that's not too bad either. I went on vacation for a week and brought one brush and arko cream with nivea asb (I think only 2-3 blades). Wasn't too horrible but shaving wasn't looked forward to much.

I use a slim usually but it sounds like a lot of SE users shave with much more aggressive razors when they do use a DE.

Except Turtle, he uses everything somehow :p

You must have read my comparison between the R41 and the Gillette Tech

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/284877-The-absurdity-of-Aggressive-VS-Mild

You have been shaving with DE's a bit longer than I have, but even still it takes some skill to swap between a mild and aggressive razor. Especially when you try to pick the most aggressive and mild razors :scared:

Thanks for the link too, I like those posts. I feel like people often generalize and make aggressive razors sound more efficient at cutting, and I haven't found that to be the case in my experience.
